Martina McBride's Timeless Takes Listeners Back

Martina McBride's Timeless Takes Listeners Back

CMA's Top Female Vocalist Records and Produces an Entire Album of Country Classic Hits First Recorded Over Thirty to Fifty Years Ago

First Single is the 1970 Number One Smash, "Rose Garden"

NASHVILLE, Tenn., July 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Everyone who was there knew something really special was happening. Martina McBride's recording sessions at Blackbird Studio during the first half of 2005 had an atmosphere of contagious enthusiasm. For the first time in her career, the multi-platinum country star was solely producing an album. But not just any album. An album unlike any she has ever recorded. An album celebrating her place in a genre she holds dear while reminiscing and paying homage to the songs where her journey began. This is an entire album dedicated to some of the most revered country classics of our time.

(Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20050729/CLF056)

"Every time I hear this music, it feels like coming home," says Martina. "What I love about these songs is that they are like conversations. These lyrics are so simple yet so eloquent. It's just honest. I have a comfort level with this music and a respect for it that is deep."

Timeless, Martina's eighth studio album, will be released October 18. The first single, "Rose Garden," which produced a number one in 1970 for Lynn Anderson, will be released to radio on August 1.

"Martina's love and understanding of country music is part of every word she sings on this album. There is no doubt in my mind that the writers of these timeless songs would agree that they have been given an equally timeless voice," says Joe Galante, Chairman, RCA Label Group.

Martina gathered a group of musicians who shared her vision. They worked out the arrangements together, then recorded the songs live. It was an organic, simple, old-fashioned process because Martina McBride, steel guitarist Paul Franklin, fiddler Stuart Duncan, bass players Glenn Worf and Larry Paxton, keyboard player Gordon Mote, drummer Eddie Bayers and guitarists Steve Gibson, Paul Worley and Marty Schiff were all dedicated to the same goal -- paying homage to classic country songs.

"It was just a joyful process," says Martina. "I wanted only musicians who had the same kind of desire to do this record as I had. I wanted people who were excited about recreating this music and who would understand how to give it the authenticity I wanted. I wasn't interested in doing a 2005 version. I wanted to get the feel of the original recording. I have to say, the musicianship on this record is some of the finest I have ever heard."

From the catalog of the immortal Hank Williams came "You Win Again" and "Take These Chains from My Heart." Country Music Hall of Fame member Buck Owens provided "Crying Time" and "Love's Gonna Live Here." Ray Price, another Hall of Famer, was the originator of "I'll Be There (If You Ever Want Me)" and "Heartaches by the Number."

Martina also tipped her hat to such Country Music Hall of Fame members as Loretta Lynn ("You Ain't Woman Enough"), Eddy Arnold ("Make the World Go Away"), Hank Snow ("I Don't Hurt Anymore"), Don Gibson ("I Can't Stop Loving You"), The Everly Brothers ("Let It Be Me"), Merle Haggard ("Today I Started Loving You Again"), Tammy Wynette ("Til I Can Make it on My Own"), Waylon Jennings ("Dreaming My Dreams") and Kris Kristofferson ("Help Me Make it Through the Night"). On "I Still Miss Someone," Martina paid her respects to one Hall of Famer, Johnny Cash, and enlisted harmony vocals from another, Dolly Parton.

Rounding out the Timeless collection are such beloved country standards as "Satin Sheets," "Rose Garden," "Walk on By," "Once a Day," "True Love Ways" and "Pick Me Up on Your Way Down." Each one was recorded straight from the heart for this extraordinary album.

Martina McBride was raised making music on a farm in tiny Sharon, Kansas. Her dad, Daryl Schiff, had a band that rehearsed every week in the family's house. When she was seven and little brother Marty was five, they joined the group. But it wasn't only nostalgia that prompted this record. These performances have been smoldering inside Martina McBride since the dawn of her recording career.

"I've always wanted to make a traditional country album and I'd say that every time I'd start a record. Then I'd gather songs that always kind of led me in another direction. But it has always been in my heart to do a record like this."

Martina McBride has been a steady presence in the country Top Ten since 1993. Her fiery, passionate vocals have created such memorable hits as "Independence Day," "Wild Angels," "A Broken Wing," "Blessed" and "This One's for the Girls." She has placed nearly 20 singles in the Top Ten, has sold 15 million records and has been named CMA's Female Vocalist of the Year in 1999, 2002, 2003 and 2004 and ACM's Female Vocalist of the Year in 2004, 2003 and 2002.

"I wasn't thinking of the 'business' of country music when I made this album," she says. "I made Timeless for the love of the music and for the experience of singing these songs. Obviously, I hope people like it. But for me the bottom line was just trying to pay tribute to these songs and give them the respect they deserve."

"This record really is not about me. It's about this music," she adds. "I want everybody who hears it to go, 'Wow, what great songs.' I think there will be a lot of people who have fond memories of these songs and also many people who will be hearing them for the first time. It's exciting to think that it may inspire someone to go back and listen to the originals and discover how wonderful traditional country music is."

Michael Pena, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Maria Bello to Co-Star in Paramount Pictures' Untitled World Trade Center Project

Michael Pena, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Maria Bello to Co-Star in Paramount Pictures' Untitled World Trade Center Project

HOLLYWOOD, Calif., July 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Michael Pena, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Maria Bello have been cast in Paramount Pictures' upcoming untitled World Trade Center project, which stars Nicolas Cage and will be directed by Oliver Stone from a screenplay written by Andrea Berloff. Pena will portray Port Authority police officer William J. Jimeno, one of the last two men rescued from the collapsed buildings, and Gyllenhaal will portray his wife, Allison. Maria Bello will play Donna, wife of Sgt. John McLoughlin, the officer who was trapped in the rubble with Jimeno; Nicolas Cage will play McLoughlin. The film is produced by Double Feature Films' Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher and former InterMedia Films chairman Moritz Borman. Debra Hill will also be credited, posthumously, as a producer.

(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/19991206/PARLOGO )

Shamberg and Sher said, "As we cast this project, we brought the actors together with the real-life heroes they'll be playing. Both the Jimenos and the McLoughlins were impressed by the level of commitment that Michael, Maggie, and Maria were making to tell this story the right way. They all have the complete support of both families."

Pena said, "I was really impressed when I met Will -- the police motto, 'protect and serve,' really means something to him. All he ever wanted to do is be a cop -- it's one thing to read that on the page, but another thing to hear him say it. It feels great to be making a movie about great cops."

Gyllenhaal said, "I'm excited to be a part of this important project. Will and John are genuine heroes and I think their wives, Allison and Donna, are heroes, too. I feel privileged to be part of a project that will remember how we all came together on that day."

Bello said, "It's been a very long time since I've been as moved as when I read Andrea's screenplay. I knew immediately that I wanted to be a part of telling this extraordinary story. And to have the opportunity to collaborate with the brilliance of Oliver and Nic is a creative dream."

The film follows the story of two Port Authority policemen who are trapped in the rubble during the rescue efforts and also focuses on their rescuers and their families, who are attempting to find out what happened to the trapped men. The film is a portrayal of how the human spirit rose above the tragic events of that day.

UK Film Council Statement on HM Treasury Consultation

UK Film Council Statement on HM Treasury Consultation

LONDON, July 29/PRNewswire/ -- Commenting on today's announcement from HM Treasury on proposed new tax incentives for British film production, UK Film Council Chief Executive Officer John Woodward says:

"The consultation proposals represent a totally new approach to tax relief for film.

"The new tax credit system will continue to provide a subsidy for British films but also offers the potential to help build British film businesses by encouraging investment in slates of films rather than single projects.

"The precise value of the new reliefs will be determined by the way in which filmmakers choose to use it. Where they continue to structure their films in the same way as they do now, the level of benefit will broadly be the same. However, the new reliefs will deliver a bigger benefit when the income from a film is reinvested against future film production.

"This marks a totally new beginning for film tax relief and the coming months of the consultation period will be crucial as the detail of the proposal are worked through."

Heineken USA To Use Latest Technology To Prevent Underage Drinking and Access At Sponsored Events

Heineken USA To Use Latest Technology To Prevent Underage Drinking and Access At Sponsored Events

First Time AgeBand(TM) Age/ID Verification System Will Be Used by Alcohol Beverage Company for a Series of Concert Events

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., July 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Heineken USA and Precision Dynamics Corporation (PDC) announced today an agreement under which PDC will provide its AgeBand(TM) Electronic Age/ID Verification Wristband System for a series of use at a number of Heineken-sponsored concerts this year. Heineken USA is the first alcohol beverage company to use the AgeBand(TM) technology for a series of concert series events.

"We chose to work with PDC because their AgeBand(TM) technology is state-of-the art, and we will accept nothing less in our efforts to prevent underage consumption," said Dan Tearno, Vice President, Corporate Affairs, Heineken USA. "Heineken USA is committed to promoting the responsible consumption, marketing and sale of our products, and for those under 21 years of age, that means no purchase or consumption of alcohol beverages. AgeBand(TM) will help us ensure that anyone enjoying a Heineken-sponsored event is of legal drinking age."

PDC's AgeBand(TM) Electronic Age/ID Verification Wristband System collects, verifies and prints driver's license and other authorized ID card information directly on patrons' wristbands to provide maximum protection against underage drinking. The system verifies the authenticity of driver's licenses and other IDs using special software developed in conjunction with the departments of Motor Vehicles' credential testing labs. The system scans the magnetic stripe or 2-dimensional bar code of an ID and instantly prints an AgeBand Wristband with pertinent patron information including, "Age ID Verified 21."

"The beauty of AgeBand is that it deters patrons planning to use fake IDs before they even try to enter an event that is restricted to those 21 and over. But if they take the risk, they face the power of a technology that is extremely accurate and reliable in catching them," said Victor LaRosa, PDC Radio Frequency ID and Age ID Manager. "AgeBand is an effective and easy-to-use system that practically eliminates the risk of allowing access to an event where alcohol beverages are served to an underage person to purchase and consume alcohol beverages at public events, such as concerts. We are pleased to be working with Heineken USA, a company that has with this initiative underscored its commitment to being a leader in promoting responsible consumption and to fighting underage drinking."

At press time, Heineken USA will use PDC's AgeBand(TM) Electronic Age/ID Verification Wristband System at Street Scene in San Diego, July 29-30 and at AmsterJam, August 20-21 in New York City (a 21 and older event). More than 100,000 are expected to attend Street Scene, where PDC will assist Heineken USA by providing its own employees to deploy AgeBand; more than 30,000 attendees are expected at AmsterJam. Heineken USA is currently considering the use of AgeBand technology at its other sponsored events.
