Paul Korda whose songs have charted around the globe has been facing homelessness

On August 6th 2015 Paul Korda became the respondent in an Unlawful Detainer action in Department 64 at LA's Stanley Mosk Superior Court. He was and still is suffering from several chronic illnesses and his doctor has warned of serious consequences to his health should he suffer eviction. Angela Kauffman at the Department of Disability that is attached to Mayor Gil Garcetti's office expressed her concern at the many elder and disabled that are suffering eviction now.

Paul was represented by Sarah E. Truesdale at
Public Counsel Homelessness Prevention Law Project with further counsel, Bryant Yang, who both made the case for "Reasonable Accommodation" due to Paul Korda's chronic illnesses, was unable to go through the arduous process of finding a reasonably priced rental in Hollywood, due to his mobility problems.
and Hollywood's newly found tourism status.

His
landlords, after almost a year of persevering in throwing Paul Korda out, rather than allowing him to remain in his home, found little comfort from the Judge and were forced to file a readjusted case to recover the back rent they had refused to accept, and rather than face a jury trial for Reasonable Accommodation which they may have lost, and Paul Korda, rather than remain under the further stress of a public trial, as his health was severely failing, having multiple admissions into various hospitals intensive Care Units, decided to settle, by leaving the apartment by July 1st 2016

He tried to apply for many apartments, but apartment rents in Hollywood were far too expensive and landlords told him he needed to earn three times his rent, which as a disabled elder was too expensive.

The current behavior over housing in Los Angeles exhibits "a profit take precedent" over Humanities needs."In the 60's and 70's, when I first arrived in Hollywood, the celebrity in the movie and music industries was far less important than the art itself. I remember trying to hitch a ride to the bank, and Mama Cass from the Mamas and the Papas stopped for me and took me there. Now celebrity and money have turned Hollywood into a much harsher and more criminal place that is driving up the cost of survival here, and quite frankly has made life here unpleasant.

In the next few days Paul Korda leaves for Europe to be with his sons and leave behind over 40 years living in Hollywood, for the gentler environment of the English countryside.

LA RENTS HIT CEILINGS AFFECTING AGING and DISABLED

Paul Korda whose songs have charted around the globe is facing homelessness. Not that he failed to pay his rent, but because his landlords took nearly two months to make a repair last year, and the problem had caused Mr.Korda to be unable to sleep and his health to deteriorate. He eventually contacted the Los Angeles 211 line, where he was referred to Adult Protective Services for the technician believed by not repairing it was a form of physical and psychological abuse. The problem was infra-sound being generated by a faulty restaurant fan system. When APS were in touch, the landlords admitted it was a problem a previous neighbor suffered from, and within a few days they repaired the burnt out rubber washers that insulated the chimney from his bedroom wall. They had allowed Paul to suffer, even offering him a sub-standard apartment to move to. Since Paul’s report, the manager has continued to harass him, in order to get him to move out.

On August 6th Paul Korda is the plaintiff in an Unlawful Detainer action in Department 64 at LA's Stanley Mosk Superior Court. He is suffering from several chronic illnesses and his doctor has warned of serious consequences to his health should he suffer eviction.

Paul Korda, beset with difficulties due to his chronic illnesses causing disabilities in his mobility, is
facing harassment and eviction from his home in Los Angeles. At the same time his song “Se Perdo Te” appears on “Super San Remo 2015” that is currently double platinum at number 4 on FIMI, Italy’s National Music Chart. As the earnings from this success won’t be due for over a year, and being unable to afford to move, even if his lack of mobility would even allow him to be able to inspect and rent a new home, his timeis exhausted by his pain and health requisites, but his legal difficulties in stopping an eviction, without a pro bono lawyer, let alone packing his belongings and moving. As Paul had spent much of his life writing songs in the service of Humanity, such as writing for UK Old Age Pensioners to protest their living conditions, or teaching inner city children in Los Angeles To “make up their own music”.

So Paul Korda decided that using his situation in the cause of the oppressed disabled could provide help. He contacted a Los Angeles Councilman’s Mitch O'Farrell's office was referred    to Angie Kauffman who heads the Los Angeles Department of Disability, and she expressed her interest in promoting his situation, due to having many disabled people calling for help from eviction, due to their use of Marijuana for their pain and well being.
Paul Korda then requested the manager for the Michaels Organization to reconsider to stay, having always paid the rent on time and generally being a good tenant, and under the circumstances of his disability, to allow him to spend the rest of his days in his
home of so many years. They refused and printed out his notice to leave by June 1st and told him he must sign or face eviction. He again told them that in his condition it is a death sentence. The manager James Buck replied in other words, that he is classed as the bad guy and he'll live with it.
