Update: Sheryl Crow Announces 9 Very Special US Engagements
SANTA MONICA, Calif., Sept. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Very Special Engagements? Why?
We have often seen these statements casually thrown away on the full colour ads in the back of the glossies, but this time it's authentic.
The difference in the presentation this time round is not about any new technological feats. It's not about the bells and whistles. Sheryl's not going to be descending from the rafters in a white gown and crown. As usual her show is going to be about the music. Each will be a special night not only because these are going to be the only North American show this year, but because of the fact that joining Sheryl, Tim Smith, Peter Stroud, Mike Rowe and Jeremy Stacey on stage will be a 12 piece string section.
On the new record a lot of the songs are embellished with an organic string sound, so in an effort to present an authentic auditory experience, the real thing will be there on stage. It only makes sense that David Campbell, uber strings arranger, will actually be present to conduct as it was he who wrote the arrangements for the new songs on 'Wildflower.' Don't make the mistake in thinking that this new record is Yehudi Menuhin gone wild. It's more of a texture thing. A different feel. The guitars are still there and the strings complement that vintage Sheryl sound rather than force themselves upon you like a soon to be cast off novelty.
But it won't just be a night of new music. All songs from Sheryl's collection are potentially string friendly and some will be complemented with the sound of the live strings. Exactly which ones will make it to the setlist was being worked on last week when Sheryl and her bandmates settled down in her New York apartment to hammer out a compressed catalogue of tunes. Sourcing from all 5 (including Wildflower) of her studio albums they came up with a shortlist of some 25 songs. There may be some surprises.
What they came up with at the end of the night, well, we'll just have to see at one of these 9 Very Special Engagements.
Wildflower will be released in the US on 27th September with the debut single Good Is Good preceding it on September 19th. The album will add to Sheryl Crow's tally of 25 million worldwide record sales from her hit albums Tuesday Night Music Club (1994), Sheryl Crow (1996), The Globe Sessions (1998), Live From Central Park (1999), C'mon C'mon (2002) and 2003's greatest hits collection, which reached triple platinum status in the USA. During her career, Crow has won a remarkable nine Grammies.
