UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif., Sept. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Oscar(R) winners Nicole Kidman ("The Hours," "Moulin Rouge") and Sean Penn ("Mystic River," "Dead Man Walking") star in "The Interpreter," coming to DVD and VHS October 4, 2005 from Universal Studios Home Entertainment. Directed by Academy Award(R) winner Sydney Pollack, the master filmmaker behind such provocative motion pictures as "Three Days of the Condor," "Absence of Malice" and "The Firm," this edge-of-your-seat-thriller unfolds against a 21st Century landscape of international terror. The film, which Ebert and Roeper give "Two Thumbs Up" and the New York Daily News calls "Gripping! An intelligent nail biter!" co-stars Oscar(R) nominee Catherine Keener ("Being John Malkovich"). The DVD delivers even more heart-pounding excitement with thrilling deleted scenes, an alternate ending and a slew of fascinating bonus features. SYNOPSIS
In a hidden corridor of New York's United Nations headquarters, translator Silvia Broome (Nicole Kidman) overhears a potentially explosive secret about a planned assassination attempt on a visiting foreign leader. Suddenly, Silvia's orderly, quiet life is turned upside down as she becomes a target of the conspirators. Placed under the protection of federal agent Tobin Keller (Sean Penn), Silvia's world grows more nightmarish as Tobin digs deeper into Silvia's past and begins to question whether she is a victim -- or a suspect. Silvia and Tobin play out a white-knuckled game of trust and evasion that keeps them both guessing as they race to stop a terrifying international crisis before it's too late.
