Famous Scots Guards Visit New York to Pay Tribute

"It is not given to us to peer into the mysteries of the future. Still, I avow my hope and faith, sure and inviolate, that in the days to come, the British and American people will for their own safety and for the good of all walk together in majesty, in justice, and in peace." - Winston Churchill

NEW YORK, Aug. 24 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Scots Guards Pipes and Drums are coming to New York to commemorate the memory of those who lost their lives on September 11th, 2001 and to pay tribute to the long history of shared blood shed between the Scots Guards, U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps. The American-Scottish Foundation (ASF) is the joint sponsor for the Scots Guards Colonel's Fund Dinner and the Wallace Award . The Award recognizes Scots or Americans who have made an important contribution to American/Scottish relations.

On September 22nd, The Scots Guards will play at the British Garden in Hanover Square at 12:30 p.m. (EDT) to honor those American and British citizens who died on September 11th, 2001.

On the evening of September 22nd, the Scots Guards Pipes and Drums and Scottish singer Isla St. Clair, will perform at a gala event, starting at 6:30pm, on board the newly restored Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum. Distinguished US and UK diplomatic, military and business leaders will be attending to show their support for the Colonel's Fund, a charitable fund designed to care for Scots Guardsmen wounded in action, as well as for the families of those who were killed on the frontline. This event will help "Heal A Soldier's Life," after they have fought heroically and sacrificed on our behalf, while we have remained safe at home.

Another highlight of the Intrepid evening will feature the presentation by HRH The Duke of Kent, Colonel of the Scots Guards, to the Rt. Hon. Lord Robertson of Port Ellen, 10th Secretary General of NATO with The American-Scottish Foundation's Wallace Award in recognition of his long and distinguished service to the enhancement of the special relationship that exists between America and its NATO allies.

From September 24th, the Scots Guards Pipes and Drums will be in Washington D.C., for a series of performances at The Pentagon and on Capitol Hill, culminating in a special performance on September 26th at the Walter Reed Hospital, to pay homage to their American counterparts who have been injured on the field. This visit will symbolize the "brotherhood of arms" between this famous British Regiment and its counterparts in the U.S. Forces.

The Scots Guards will return to Afghanistan in March 2010 to fight alongside the American military in Helmand Province.
