WTKK Teams Up With the Deutsche Bank Championship to Support Fisher House Boston
Premier Packages to the Deutsche Bank Golf Championship Benefit Wounded Veterans Undergoing Medical Treatment
BOSTON, Aug. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- 96.9 FM, WTKK talk hosts Michael Graham and Jay Severin will conduct a week-long auction of premier experiences for the Deutsche Bank Championship to benefit Fisher House Boston.
The auction, which begins August 24 and runs through August 31, will feature a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play in the Deutsche Bank Championship Pro-Am on September 3rd alongside one of the Top 100 ranked golfers in the world. In addition, the Pro-Am group will include Fisher House Foundation Chairman Ken Fisher and SSG Dale Beatty -- an Iraq War veteran and Purple Heart recipient who lost both of his legs in combat.
"The chance alone to play a round of golf with a real American hero like Dale Beatty makes this auction an incredible opportunity," said WTKK host Michael Graham. "Add to that the experience of being a genuine participant in the Deutsche Bank Championship with a Top 100 pro and this is a one-of-a-kind auction item."
Other experiences to be auctioned include: lunch with Michael Graham at the TPC Boston Member Tent along with premium access to the DBC; a premium access package including lunch with Jay Severin; an "Inside the Ropes" opportunity to walk with a threesome of PGA pros and their caddies during Round 1 and 3 of DBC tournament play; and an overload of exclusive access to DBC action with premium passes for four people to attend three days of tournament play. All proceeds from the WTKK auction will directly benefit Fisher House Boston. The Deutsche Bank Championship (DBC) runs from Tuesday, September 1st, 2009 through Monday, September 7th, 2009.
"Fisher House Boston is one of the most important projects being built right now anywhere in New England," said WTKK host Jay Severin. "The brave men and women who have sacrificed so much for America in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere deserve the best care possible. And one element of that care is making sure veterans' families can be close by during the recovery process. That's what Fisher House does -- free of charge."
SSG Dale Beatty and his wife, Belinda, benefited greatly from a combined two-year stay in the Fisher House at Walter Reed Army Medical Center after being wounded in Iraq. Despite grave injuries that cost him both legs, Beatty continues to be an avid golfer. In addition to a spot in Beatty's Pro-Am foursome, the highest bidder for that item will receive two tickets to the Pro-AM Draw Party at the Four Seasons Hotel the night of Wednesday, September 2nd.
"Michael Graham, Jay Severin and everyone at WTKK have shown over and over again their great commitment to the Fisher House mission," said Michelle Keating, CEO of Alder Foods and Chairwoman of the Fisher House Boston capital campaign. "We're very excited about this once-in-a-lifetime auction and the chance for golf fans to show their support for Fisher House at the Deutsche Bank Championship."
The luncheon packages with Michael and Jay include four VIP passes to the Mastercard Club Pavilion for Friday, September 4th at the TPC Boston Member Tent. The package also consists of two passes for Sunday to the Fisher House Sky Chalet located on the Hole 16 Tee Box. In addition, each winner will receive an American Flag with a certificate of authenticity recognizing that the flag was carried during a sensitive mission in Baghdad, Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
The Fisher House Foundation enables family members of wounded and ill veterans to be close to their loved ones during hospitalization and gives them a safe, comfortable, home-like environment. There are currently 42 Fisher House facilities worldwide.
Nestle -- a sponsor of the Deutsche Bank Championship -- is working with Alder Foods to also donate premium seating packages to be auctioned or sold to benefit Fisher House Boston. Alder Foods is one of the nation's largest suppliers to military commissaries and has a presence in all key geographic regions around the world.
Fisher House Boston began construction last October on the grounds of the Veterans Administration Medical Center in West Roxbury -- a Level 2 polytrauma center with the only spinal-chord-injury unit in New England. The Fisher House Foundation helps wounded veterans recover faster by providing their families with caring and supportive comfort homes near military and VA medical centers at no charge.
