Media Tip Sheet: Day Four - Work Moves from Outside to Inside

Media Tip Sheet: Day Four - Work Moves from Outside to Inside

Thursday, October 18, 2007

Today's Construction Spotlight: The focus is now on the interior of the house including painting, wallpapering, installing cabinetry and counter tops, laying the tile. Outside you will see the landscapers finishing up planting trees, shrubs and putting down the yards and yards of sod. Work continues on the renovations to the horse barn as well as on building the new hay barn. The Luther Family house is really coming together!

WEDNESDAY RECAP: IT'S A HOUSE!

In what typically takes many weeks to accomplish was done in only hours yesterday when the exterior walls, second floor and roof were completed. And that was only part of what was done on Wednesday. Drywall was hung, insulation installed, plumbing and electrical work completed, progress made on installing 60,000 stones to the exterior of the house, and the exterior trim and painting were also finished. Crews worked around the clock as did trucks moving in supplies in readiness for the next phase of this amazing week. The scheduling, logistical planning and anticipation of every construction detail are critical components to accomplishing getting the Luther Family home built, decorated and furnished by the time they pull up their new driveway on Sunday.

Quote of the Day: "We have approximately 1,500 volunteer contractors and trades people who have come from every part of this area, including Pennsylvania, and who are committed to making this happen. Many of them are competitors to one another, but have come together with the common goal of giving back to a community in a way that no one else has ever done before."

   - Clark Turner, founder and president, Clark Turner Signature Homes STOP BY THE MEDIA TENT AND LET US KNOW HOW WE CAN BE OF ASSISTANCE

Welcome to our humble abode directly in front of the Luther Family's new home and overlooking the new therapeutic riding facility. We're using this tent as our staging area to get you the shots and interviews you're looking for, escort you to other parts of the site, grab a bottle of water, leave your gear or just hang out. We all need to remember that this is a "live" construction site, which means that we need to bring the interview subjects to you at the media tent, shoot the site from this vantage point and avoid wandering around without an escort. Everyone continues to go out of their way to help get interviews and special shots set up, so no worries about being able to get what you need for a great story.

GETTING INTERVIEWS WITH THE DESIGN TEAM

Many members of the "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" design team are on site each day and do their best to accommodate requests for one-on-one interviews. When you're on site, let us know who you would like to interview and everyone will do their best to make it happen, understanding of course that the requested team member may not be immediately available.

TELLING THE STORY WITH CONSTRUCTION FACTOIDS: PART III

Here are few additional factoids to help you tell this amazing story: 1,700 square feet of pavers, 1,200 lbs of metal plates, 500 sheets of plywood, and 50 cases of Red Bull delivered yesterday afternoon! Let us know if you need us to resend factoids from previous tip sheets.

Please keep reminding your audience to check the Web site at www.CTextremedream.com for important spectator information regarding directions to the construction site, hours of operation, the shuttle, updates and other information. Also, we would appreciate your help in letting people know that at this time, there are more than enough volunteers. But please continue to visit www.CTextremedream.com as this situation may change.
