U.S. Senator and GOP Chairman Mel Martinez Appears on Azteca America's Political Forum "Issues: Caras y Voces"

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Azteca America, the fastest-growing Hispanic television network in the United States, is proud to have hosted U.S. Senator and GOP General Chairman Mel Martinez on this Monday's broadcast of "Issues: Caras y Voces", a political forum hosted by veteran Latino journalist Armando Guzman.

Senator Martinez (R-FL), the first Cuban-American ever elected to the U.S. Senate, was tapped in 2006 to lead the Republican Party as general chairman. He also served as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development in President Bush's first administration.

During the interview for "Issues: Caras y Voces," he staunchly defended the appeal of the Republican Party for Hispanic voters, especially given the party's position on family values and strong national defense. "I hope that the next presidency ... is Republican, because the country recognizes that the security of this nation is in better hands with a Republican."

Although the anti-immigration movement is largely supported by the Republican Party, he defended President Bush's position. "There have been some in the other party who have cleverly used this (anti-immigration) information against us. But the reality is that there was no one more committed to the migration process than President George Bush. Not just now, but since taking oath." He added that "the biggest challenge today is to once again encourage (voters) who have become completely disenchanted," said Senator Martinez.

"Issues: Caras y Voces" features top leaders that impact the Hispanic community through one-on-one interviews conducted by Armando Guzman. Covering the White House and the Capitol for almost two decades, Mr. Guzman is one of the most veteran and respected correspondents in Washington. The interview forum airs every Monday at 11 pm/ 10 pm CST during Noticiero Azteca America, the network news broadcast of Azteca America.
