Warner Home Video's 'Boys Town' Proceeds to Help Girls and Boys Town Katrina Evacuees
BOYS TOWN, Neb., Oct. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Father Flanagan's Girls and Boys Town announced today that Warner Home Video has agreed to generously donate proceeds from the sale of its DVD release of the 1938 film "Boys Town" to benefit children and families evacuated from Girls and Boys Town of Louisiana facilities in New Orleans.
The DVD, which includes the Academy Award-winning film and its sequel, "Men of Boys Town," will be released November 8 and will be featured on Turner Classic Movies December 18.
Sixty-five Girls and Boys Town children and staff evacuated New Orleans prior to Hurricane Katrina's landfall in August. The evacuees spent more than a week in San Antonio, Texas, and are now living at the Girls and Boys Town's largest youth care facility and national headquarters in Nebraska until damage to their homes and shelters in the New Orleans area can be repaired and the city's infrastructure can safely support their return to the city.
"I greatly appreciate Warner Home Video's efforts to help our children," said Father Steve Boes, Girls and Boys Town's National Executive Director. "In doing so, Warner Home Video is underscoring the fact that Father Flanagan's work is as vital and relevant today as when it appeared in this classic movie nearly 70 years ago."
Jeff Baker, Warner Home Video Theatrical Catalog SVP & General Manager, noted: "When Girls and Boys Town appealed to us, we decided it would be a great opportunity for Warner Home Video to join all the divisions of Warner Bros. and Time Warner in lending a hand. We hope the donation will help provide some comfort to children in need in New Orleans and Gretna, Louisiana."
In response to the unprecedented devastation in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, Time Warner, its divisions and employees have, to date, made direct financial contributions to relief organizations totaling more than $4.5 million.
Father Flanagan's Girls and Boys Town is a leader in the treatment and care of abused, abandoned and neglected children. Last year, through programs at 19 sites, Girls and Boys Town provided direct care to more than 43,000 girls and boys. It also assisted another 1.5 million through the Girls and Boys Town National Hotline and other outreach and training programs.
