Digeo Announces Moxi(TM) Mini, the First Low-Cost Set Top Box Also Capable of Delivering Full Media Center Capabilities

Versatile stand-alone receiver planed for 2006 release

SAN FRANCISCO and KIRKLAND, Wash., April 3 /PRNewswire/ -- THE NATIONAL SHOW (NCTA) -- In response to the cable industry's needs for lower cost digital set top receivers and the growing demand for media center functionality, Digeo, Inc., today announced the Moxi(TM) Mini. Slated for release next year, the Moxi Mini is a "smart," low cost set top box (STB) that offers dual-mode functionality both as a stand alone digital receiver and as a client delivering digital video recording (DVR) and media center functionality when a Moxi(TM) II Media Center is added to the home.

Part of the next-generation Moxi II product family, the Moxi Mini gives cable operators an enticing alternative to the traditional STB by offering a solution that provides both a low price point, as well as a much longer competitive life when compared to traditional STBs. The low cost Moxi Mini provides two attractive deployment options for cable operators because it can function in either of these modes:

* As a stand-alone digital receiver capable of running OCAP applications and a light version of the Moxi Menu and guide, including On Demand;

* As a Moxi Mate media center extension, bringing DVR, Moxi Photo, Moxi Jukebox, Moxi Games, Moxi Telephone, and even HD services to multiple rooms in the home.

As part of the Moxi II family, Moxi Mini also provides cable operators with the opportunity to upgrade those customers and gain additional revenue through premium services that can be shared throughout the home.

For cable operators, the Moxi Mini provides the versatility of offering a basic low-cost cable service package now, and easily and affordably upgrading subscribers to a full multi-room media center package later-without the hassle or expense of installing multiple new boxes or additional wiring. Cable operators need only to install a single new Moxi II Media Center and the Moxi Mini automatically becomes a fully-functioning digital Moxi Mate, giving their consumers immediate access to one of the most robust multi-room packages on the market today, including telephony, On Demand, digital video recording (DVR), HDTV, and HSD services.

"The Moxi Media Center software has provided a great leap forward for cable operators," said Toby Farrand, chief technology officer, Digeo, Inc. "With the versatility to work as an independent receiver and as a full DVR with media center, the Moxi Mini enables cable operators to easily increase their revenue base-without incurring added equipment installation charges, wiring costs or the acquisition expenses of new subscribers."

To win the battle for the digital living room, cable operators must maintain subscriber loyalty by offering unique home entertainment services and superior performance while meeting consumer price expectations. Placing Moxi Mini in the home as the basic digital set top gives cable operators a cost- effective path to delivering a whole-home media center solution. The flexibility and capabilities of the new platform give cable new advantages over satellite by providing a high-value STB and a low-cost multi-room solution designed to provide a longer competitive lifecycle and superior subscriber flexibility.
