The Ohio State University Enhances the Classroom Experience and Reduces Instructor Preparation Time by 4x Using Scene7's Dynamic Asset Management Solution Educators Use Scene7 to Share Digital Collections of Image Assets Across Multiple Disciplines for Teaching and Research NOVATO, Calif., Jan. 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Scene7, provider of the leading rich media platform to grow revenues and enhance visual communications -- while automating media production and delivery, today announced The Ohio State University's Web Media Collective has implemented Scene7's Dynamic Asset Management Solution, enabling University professors to leverage vast collections of digital images for use in the classroom. The Web Media Collective of The Ohio State University was developed to help solve the problem of how to help individual faculty, teams of faculty, curriculum groups and multi-discipline communities manage and share media assets for teaching and research. The Web Media Collective leverages digital "knowledge artifact" collections associated with the University for research, teaching, and outreach. The first phase of the project consists of six digital media collections containing over 850,000 media assets that will be available to over 20,000 students in 105 course sections annually. "Scene7's Dynamic Asset Management Solution has become one of the best investments we've made. Scene7 has given us a cost-effective way to manage, process, and deliver our vast collections of high resolution images for use in the classroom and to share these images throughout the University," said Diane Dagefoerde, Director of Technology, Office of the Colleges of the Arts & Sciences. "Now, instead of maintaining various resolutions and sizes of image assets, we only need one high resolution image -- all thumbnails, low-resolution study copies, hi-resolution research copies, and zoomable detailed views are all generated on-the-fly." Scene7's Dynamic Asset Management (DAM) solution enables companies to manage rich media assets corporate wide and make these digital assets available to any user, any time. Scene7's powerful, browser-based system gives users the ability to centralize, organize, control, access, transform, and distribute rich media digital assets for both online and offline uses. Scene7's DAM is built upon Scene7's single, integrated platform for rich media and utilizes Scene7's Image Production System (IPS) as the central dashboard for all image management and publishing -- giving information workers an easy way to locate, modify, and deliver corporate brand and media assets and streamline the management, production and delivery of these assets across the enterprise. After originally integrating Scene7's Image Server into its proprietary media management and digital library applications, The University's Web Media Collective recently upgraded and is in the process of deploying Scene7's full Dynamic Asset Management solution to create new image templates and add additional functionality to the system. Scene7's has automated a once manual process for the faculty. Scene7 can dynamically generate derivatives from single high-quality masters, drastically reducing repetitive manual image production time and costs. Previously, if a faculty member had images to share with students, he would have to manually scan, save them in the appropriate formats, create a Webpage, publish to a server, test the pages, then share the final URL with students. "Now, once the images are scanned in digital format, the faculty can access these images directly through a web interface and create their own derivatives -- drastically reducing faculty members' prep time and providing the ability to show an image as part of a larger concept in class," said Dagefoerde. "One of the major benefits of the Scene7 solution is making it possible for the faculty to accomplish something that they always wanted to do," continued Dagefoerde. "So we've removed a barrier by creating a service to the university, ultimately making image assets more valuable and available to improve the experience in the classroom. Scene7's solutions remove the technical barriers to utilizing image assets that the professors already have and want to use -- ultimately extending the value of these assets as they can now be used rather than just sitting on a shelf." "We're proud to enable the Ohio State University to create a resource for their faculty to help visually enhance the classroom environment," said Doug Mack, CEO of Scene7. "This ground-breaking use of our rich media platform in education will hopefully provide educators with the means to better employ visual communication as a staple in the education process." The University is currently looking to implement other Scene7 solutions such as eCatalog and eVideo to further enable instructors to extend the use of the University's library of media assets and continue to improve the learning experience for its student and faculty.
