Teksouth Awarded Carnegie Mellon Software Engineering Institute CMM Level 2 Certification

Teksouth Awarded Carnegie Mellon Software Engineering Institute CMM Level 2 Certification BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Jan. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Teksouth Corporation (http://www.teksouth.com/), a veteran provider of data warehouse and data transfer technologies, today announced that it has received certification from Carnegie Mellon University's Software Engineering Institute (SEI) at Level 2 of SEI's Capability Maturity Model (CMM(R)). The certification places Teksouth in the vanguard of technology companies, and provides independent confirmation that Teksouth's policies and processes in the development of its software are consistently among the industry's best. The certification is key to Teksouth's continued efforts in the Federal government sector, where many agencies are requiring contractors to achieve CMM compliance, as a way of consistently ensuring product quality while reducing costs. A Teksouth engineering team, led by Jeff Ward, Senior Project Manager, completed the certification process over the span of five months, less than one-fourth of the average time it takes most companies to attain certification. Teksouth's CMM Level 2 certification was awarded in the areas of configuration management, project management, and quality assurance management. "Most companies that attempt to gain CMM certification fail in their initial attempts; few companies of our size even try," said Ward. "We are highly pleased to receive the certification, and regard it as validation of the well-established processes we have previously implemented within Teksouth." CMM Level 2 status is awarded only to software developers and companies who successfully implement strict quantitative quality and productivity goals for both software products and processes. CMM measures productivity and quality into five quantifiable levels of sequential development: Initial, Repeatable, Defined, Managed and Optimizing. The more an organization depends on and implements formal rules, rather than relying on individuals, to keep software projects relevant, within budget and on schedule, the more advanced the organization's software development "maturity." Teksouth's software is used in award-winning implementations by the U.S. Defense Department and more. The company was recently cited by SQL Server magazine as part of its annual Innovators Awards. As part of its continuing development, Teksouth also disclosed that it has begun an effort to achieve CMM Level 3 certification, which it expects to be completed before the end of this year.
