NEW YORK, Sept. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Tonight, the 92nd Street Y, New York's renowned cultural and community center, opens its 2008-2009 season with Joan Baez in conversation with Anthony DeCurtis. To launch the season and the Y's new logo (designed by Pentagram's Michael Bierut, the branding guru recently awarded the 2008 National Design Award from the Smithsonian's Cooper Hewitt), 92Y has posted an on-line video challenge that features the faces of 92 prominent people who have appeared at 92Y. TWO PEOPLE WHO CAN CORRECTLY IDENTIFY AT LEAST 30 OF THE FACES IN THE VIDEO WILL WIN A YEAR OF 92Y EVENTS. Because the video -- like the Y's content on YouTube and elsewhere -- can be seen far beyond the Y's New York neighborhood, there are two prize options: one for New Yorkers, and another for those outside the NYC area. Winners (regardless of where they live) can choose a year's worth of free tickets and a gym membership to the 92nd Street Y in New York, or a "virtual" year at the Y -- an iPod Touch loaded with the Y's recent and archival programming and a pair of JetBlue airline tickets (to anywhere the airline flies).
Visit www.92y.org/contest to enter the video challenge. Deadline for entries is September 26; winners announced October 1.
Other upcoming guests at the Y include: Treasury secretary HENRY M. PAULSON; Former NY Mets KEITH HERNANDEZ and DARRYL STRAWBERRY; China expert WINSTON LORD; Anchorman DAN RATHER live at 92Y on Election Night; Maurice Sendak salute with MERYL STREEP, DAVE EGGERS & TONY KUSHNER; Jazz giant WYNTON MARSALIS (in conversation); Businesswoman MARTHA STEWART; Satirist ANDY BOROWITZ; Writers WALTER MOSELEY, JUDY BLUME, JOHN ASHBERY; Scientist JANE GOODALL; Influential intellectuals CORNEL WEST, NAOMI KLEIN and GLORIA STEINEM; Composer JOHN ADAMS; and movie director SIDNEY LUMET.
