Youth Uncover the Heart of the National Guard Through New Documentary Program
Their Lens, Their Voice, and the True Stories of the National Guard
CHICAGO, Sept. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- The Army National Guard and Fresh Films, the nation's leading teen filmmaking competition, announce the launch a documentary film initiative, NG Docs. This new program was developed to give young filmmakers the opportunity to capture the real people, places, and experiences of the Army National Guard through their own lens.
This October, aspiring documentarians will get a unique look at the people and places that make up the Army National Guard. No sets, scripts, or actors -- the people, places, and experiences are all real. The Army National Guard is made up of everyday heroes whose goal is to protect the nation's communities in times of need and now the NG Docs filmmakers will be telling their stories.
The Army National Guard is supporting young filmmakers through this opportunity. The mission is to build their confidence, camaraderie and documentary filmmaking skills by providing them with the technology, network and hands-on insider experience they need to share the story of the National Guard with America.
Colonel Michael Jones expressed, "We're excited to create a documentary program with Fresh Films because the Army National Guard shares their belief in these talented young filmmakers. It's our goal to celebrate the heroes that surround us everyday and who better to bring their stories to reality than the next generation of heroes in the making."
Documentary crews, comprised of youth ages 17-22, will be headquartered at one U.S. base camp where they'll be immersed in the world of the Army National Guard. They'll document the Guardsmen, telling their stories, and connecting to the communities & people who've benefited from their service and support. The completed documentary will debut in Hollywood at AFI FEST, produced by the prestigious American Film Institute, November 8.
Youth from all over the United States can apply now through Monday, September 8th online at http://www.fresh-films.com/. No filmmaking experience is required to apply or participate as teens learn and grow alongside each other on location.
Through the development of the NG Docs program the Army National Guard and Fresh Films are demonstrating their continued commitment to building confidence and success through providing these filmmakers with unique experiences, resources and opportunities.
