Over-Capacity Crowd Goes Ape at National Lampoon's 'Homo Erectus'
Director Adam Rifkin Adds a Second Screening Due to Overwhelming Demand
LOS ANGELES, July 10 /PRNewswire/ -- The screening of National Lampoon's "Homo Erectus" was so raucous last night, it looked like a scene cut straight from the film. The July 9th event was hosted by Ain't It Cool News, and shortly after filling the Hollywood Egyptian Theatre to capacity, threats of shutting down the screener rang from the upper echelons of management. Hollywood celebrities and attendees alike duked it out for the remaining seats. Luckily, amidst the caveman-like rioting, Adam Rifkin, director and lead star of the film, sprang into crowd control announcing the addition of a second screening immediately following the first show.
"This definitely proves that caveman movies are back in vogue and that the online publicity machine is working," Rifkin explained. "It was such a mob scene, I felt compelled to spend thousands of dollars in the interest of public safety."
True to form, Rifkin -- a director, actor, and "philanthropist" -- stepped up to the challenge and laid down his hard-earned cash to ensure that everyone at the screening had a chance to get in to see "Homo Erectus."
At 7 p.m., the building reached capacity and Egyptian Theatre employees set up ropes to control the unruly crowd. The crowd, reluctant to remain outside any longer, quickly broke the lines, rushing the lobby and clamored to get in.
"It was incredible," noted one attendee, Niki Pezeshki. "So many movie-goers were trying to get in, that even a few celebrities and cast members were left to wait outside for the second screening!"
Despite the 90-minute wait between screening times, the 9:45pm showing pulled together another almost capacity crowd, proving that "Homo Erectus" was worth the wait.
National Lampoon's "Homo Erectus" is set for theatrical release on July 11th, 2008. For more information on the film, please visit: http://www.homoerectusmovie.com/.
