Wolf Trap Hosts National Arts and Environment Summit July 13 - 14, 2008

Twenty-nine leading thinkers to meet; empowered and led by Wolf Trap to formulate solutions for fully engaging the performing arts community in environmental responsibility

VIENNA, Va., July 10 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts, Americans for the Arts, Reverb, The Aspen Institute, and Booz Allen Hamilton have gathered experts from around the county in the disciplines of the arts, environmental advocacy, media, and business, to participate in Wolf Trap's National Summit on the Arts and Environment in Vienna, Virginia, July 13 and 14, 2008. The summit is another action in a series of leadership steps taken by the Wolf Trap Foundation as part of its "Go Green with Wolf Trap" initiative, which is raising awareness of environmental issues within the performing arts community. As America's Only National Park for the Performing Arts, Wolf Trap has been celebrating the inspirational relationship between nature and the arts for more than 37 years.

On Monday, July 14, 2008, 29 distinguished panelists, hosts, and facilitators will convene to outline strategies and practical solutions for fully engaging performing artists and performing arts presenters in environmental stewardship. Confirmed participants include the Honorable Norman Mineta, Philippe Cousteau, country musician Kathy Mattea, Americans for the Arts' Bob Lynch, and leaders from The Aspen Institute, Reverb, General Motors, Discovery Communications, PEG Environmental Engineering, CBS Radio, the Alliance to Save Energy, The Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation, ICF International, EcoArts, the National Building Museum, Williams Center for the Arts, the National Park Service, and others. More than 60 additional arts and civic institutions from around the country are also registered to participate in the summit's interactive webinar.

The day-long meeting of the 29 expert panelists and facilitators will take place at the corporate headquarters of Booz Allen Hamilton, Inc. in McLean, Virginia and will be open to 100 additional participants via the internet from 4:00 - 5:15 p.m. There is no charge for participation, but webinar space is limited. In addition to its support for Wolf Trap's National Summit on the Arts and Environment, Booz Allen has joined with Climate Friendly Parks, a program of the National Park Service and the Environmental Protection Agency, to help Wolf Trap fully assess and understand its impact on the environment and develop its comprehensive plan for change.

Sunday, July 13, from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Green Spot (the lower meadow) at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts, environmental advocacy groups will be gathered to educate the public and encourage everyone to "start where you are" and take action in their own lives. The Green Spot event is free, open to the public, and features live music by Todd Wright and a live on-site radio broadcast by 94.7 "The Globe" FM.

However, all patrons staying for 8 p.m. performance at the Filene Center, headlined by Hootie & The Blowfish, are required to have a ticket.

Environmentally responsible components of the entire evening are being implemented with assistance from Reverb. Founded by environmentalists Lauren Sullivan and Adam Gardner, Reverb is deeply rooted within the music and environment communities, working to educate and engage musicians and their fans in environmental sustainability.

To further encourage the use of public transportation to Wolf Trap's summer performances, free Metro shuttle service is being offered to and from the West Falls Church station on July 13, beginning at 6 p.m.
