VoiceAmerica Internet Radio Host Urges Corporations to Think of the World's Children This Holiday Season

NEW YORK, Nov. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- VoiceAmerica's STARS OF PR host Cindy Rakowitz encourages the world to wake up and look out for its children as this Holiday's urgent rallying cry. The message may seem cliche but recent events have provoked the radio show's broadcast team to take "on the air" action on Thursday, November 8th at 7AM Pacific Time.

In reaction to headlines about the Gap's utilization of child labor for their sewing factories in India and Oprah Winfrey's necessary intervention with abusive administrators at her Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa, Rakowitz is encouraging listeners to take more action on behalf of children around the world.

This crusade for action began with the STARS OF PR production team while they were researching story ideas for the VoiceAmerica show. The bookers came across stories in the London Times and Business week in which Bacardi is being accused of blocking the distribution of nearly $800M dollars currently being held in trust and earmarked for the education of underprivileged children throughout the world. It is reported that the Bacardi family instructed its lawyers to file an injunction, which prevents the payout from the will of Martin Crowley, co-founder of Patron Tequila.

Martin Crowley died in 2003 and left his entire estate to this US charitable organization called the Windsong Trust. Crowley's executors agreed in January that his former business partner John Paul DeJoria, who already owns the other 50% of Patron, would pay the estate almost $800M to settle a long-standing dispute over DeJoria's right to buy the shares. The settlement has since been blocked by Bacardi, which states in court papers that it has a prior agreement from 2004 with the executors to buy the stake for $175M. The claim, if successful, would leave the children's trust almost $600M short.

"It is our goal to encourage listeners to pick up the phone and call Bacardi", said Rakowitz. "If the public puts pressure on Bacardi to drop this injunction, the Windsong Trustees can begin to spend the money on books, computers and construction of schools both here in the United States and worldwide".
