The Weather Channel Open for Business November 7 with Branded Products Available Online at store.weather.com

ATLANTA, Nov. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, The Weather Channel is announcing the launch of an online store, http://store.weather.com/. The new site offers a wide range of branded products that live up to the trust the network's name stands for and that capture the spirit of all the ways that weather affects people's lives.

store.weather.com is an upbeat and lively e-commerce site offering high-quality products at a good value from high-end gadgets and gear to popular polo's, caps, and umbrellas bearing The Weather Channel logo. Designed to have an appealing, non-catalog look, the site is organized under the headings of Gift Specials, Be Prepared, Staying Healthy and Travel Smart.

"The Weather Channel store brings a dynamic interactive shopping experience to consumers, one that we believe will meet the expectations of existing users and attract new ones. We know that people have strong feelings about the weather. It inspires them to dream and play and pursue the activities they love in the outdoors. On the other hand, the threatening side of weather causes people to seek out information and products to keep themselves and their families safe. At both ends of the spectrum, store.weather.com offers a rich retail experience with products that reflect our brand mantra of 'bringing weather to life,'" said Shari Pace, senior vice president of licensing and merchandising.

The Weather Channel store will leverage the loyal following of millions of viewers and online users of The Weather Channel and its Web site, weather.com. A CD of music played during local forecasts, "The Weather Channel Presents Smooth Jazz," is available and, in December, offerings will include a multi-episode collection of the award-winning Storm Stories series on DVD.

Many of the apparel items are selected for outdoor "activists" and have special features such as a running jacket made of fabric that "wicks" moisture away from the skin. At launch, products for fall and winter will be featured; new items will be added to the mix with each new season.

The Weather Channel online store is one of many new ventures by the licensing group at The Weather Channel. Following significant progress in endemic categories, the company put a new focus on acquiring new licensees in other categories such as gardening and the kids market. An entertaining and educational Web site called theweatherchannelkids.com launched this fall. The Weather Channel licensing group also ventured into the music business, releasing a CD that hit the top of Billboard's smooth jazz charts and also establishing an avenue for the release of programs on DVD. Named a finalist by the Licensing Industry Merchandising Association in the Best Corporate Brand Program of the Year category, The Weather Channel continues to expand beyond a TWC brand program that owns the category of "safety and preparedness" to gaining a foothold in other categories which include lifestyle, gardening, kids/education, electronics and apparel.
