WHAT:   Four of the world's greatest philanthropists and philanthropic families   will be honored at the Carnegie Medals of Philanthropy celebration.    WHEN:   Wednesday, October 17, 2007, 2 p.m.   Press conference immediately following the ceremony at 3:30 p.m.    WHERE:   Carnegie Music Hall   4400 Forbes Ave.   Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania    Press conference is in the Music Hall's Founder's Room    WHY:   The medals, created to honor Andrew Carnegie's career as a philanthropist,   are awarded every two years to families and individuals who have dedicated   their private wealth to the public good and who have sustained impressive   careers as philanthropists.   

Pittsburgh was chosen for this year's celebration to highlight Carnegie's impact on the region's businesses, education and culture. His philanthropic efforts established more than 20 organizations, include the event's four host institutions for 2007: the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University and Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh. This year's event is sponsored by UPMC and United States Steel Corporation.
