Move Networks to Provide High Quality Online Video Player for Discovery Communications

Move Networks to Provide High Quality Online Video Player for Discovery Communications

AMERICAN FORK, Utah, Aug. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Move Networks announced today that it will provide its state of the art publishing platform for Discovery Communications' new, expanded online initiative featuring full-length episodes of select series and specials.

Move Networks, based in Utah, has become the premier publishing platform for many leading media companies that want to deliver near-HD or HD video content online. Unlike other platforms, Move's technology is out of beta and has already been used by tens of millions of users to watch long form or live near-HD or HD video content online from leading broadcasters. The Move Player works on a number of computer OSs including Microsoft Windows Vista and Apple OS X.

"We are excited that Discovery has chosen our publishing platform, and we look forward to helping Discovery provide its customers and advertisers with the best possible viewing experience," said John Edwards, CEO of Move Networks.

"We are pleased to have Move Networks' publishing platform for this initiative," said Bruce Campbell, president, Digital Media and Business Development, Discovery Communications. "By providing viewers with a top quality online player, we can draw new audiences to our networks and build more opportunities for our advertisers."

Beginning tomorrow, Discovery will offer online episodes of popular series and specials across its stable of U.S. networks. Animal Planet's MEERKAT MANOR will kick off the initiative with a special premiere episode available a week prior to its network debut. Day-after episodes of Discovery Channel's DIRTY JOBS and TLC's LA INK will be available starting Wednesday, August 8

Move's unique patent pending technology is a CoDec-agnostic publishing platform designed to work despite the Internet's frequent problems of high latency, packet loss, and congestion. Move's technology uses open Web-based protocols to solve the problem of delivering high-quality live and on-demand video that easily and cost-effectively scales to millions of viewers while fully protecting the assets of the media company, maximizing the user's experience. and minimizing the publisher's cost.

Move Adaptive Stream leverages a process called Simulcoding that breaks large video files into many small files called streamlets. Unlike traditional streaming solutions, streamlets are stored on standard HTTP web servers, not specialized media servers. This difference provides a continuous, high-quality stream unattainable with competing technologies.
