Earl Cole, Newest Winner of Emmy Nominated CBS Series Survivor: Fiji, Returns to His Hometown of Kansas City to Celebrate His Win and Raise Money for a Good Cause, With a Little Help From NASCAR.
SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- When Earl Cole won CBS' Survivor: Fiji earlier this year, one of the things he said he was going to do was throw a party when he came home to Kansas City.
Earl is keeping his word to the community he grew up in and loves, by hosting a FREE Kansas City Metro, community-wide "Day of Celebration" on Saturday, August 4, 2007; from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., at the Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas.
In honor of this event, Speedway will open the gates at 12:00 noon giving each vehicle 2 FREE tickets to the O'Reilly Auto-Parts Qualifying Day Race on Friday, September 28, 2007. To help support this endowment effort, NASCAR will be offering the attendees of this event, racecar "ride-a-longs" for a fee.
There will be autograph and photograph opportunities with Earl. Earl's personal memorabilia will be on display for public view, with some of the signed memorabilia up for bids at a silent auction.
The silent auction will also include limousine transportation by Sinatra Limousine Service and dinner with Earl at the popular McCormick & Schmick restaurant located in the Kansas City Plaza. Just named by People Magazine as one of America's hottest single and sexy bachelors, the bids for dinner with Earl are expected to bring in the greatest return; all of the proceeds will go to the Earl Cole Fund for Legg-Calve Perthes Disease, of course.
The opening ceremony will begin at 1:00 p.m. with a performance by Byrd Dance & Gymnastics under the direction of Susan Byrd. Kansas Youth Jazz Band under the direction of, Director Leon Brady, and the F.L. Schlagle High School Band under the direction of Mr. Reginald May also perform. There will be clowns and a host of fun activities for children.
This event is an opportunity for Earl to encourage young people to never allow obstacles, health-related or otherwise, to stop their dreams -- something Earl knows first-hand. As a child he was diagnosed with Legg-Calve Perthes Disease of the left hip, a painful condition of unknown causes resulting in premature arthritis. It is generally diagnosed in children under the age of 10, and required Earl to spend his childhood years with an A-frame cast on his legs.
Dr. Marc Asher treated Earl at The University of Kansas Hospital (KUMED). Dr Asher last saw him at age 27. At which time, Earl's hip function was normal enough for him to participate in the Survivor show and eventually win the million-dollar prize. Dr Asher is not surprised by Earl's success. Earl's character and determination was noted by his cast mates on Survivor remain etched in his mind.
As a result of Earl's former patient status, and his family's ongoing connection with The University of Kansas Hospital (his sister is a nurse there, his mother is an 11-year volunteer, and his other sister and all of his nephews have also served as volunteers there), the hospital is partnering with Earl and his family by sponsoring a health fair at this event. There will be a variety of informational health booths that will stress the importance of maintaining good health.
Earl looks forward to meeting everyone and thanks you for your support of a good cause.
