Almost 6 Million Viewers Tune into the Highest-Rated Nick TV Movie Ever Among Tweens and Total Viewers
NEW YORK, Aug. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Nickelodeon's Drake & Josh: Really Big Shrimp TV movie, starring Drake Bell and Josh Peck, served up big laughs and even bigger ratings in its premiere, Friday, August 3, 8 - 9 p.m. ET/PT. The event ranked as the highest-rated TV movie ever with tweens 9-14 and total viewers (P2+) in Nickelodeon history, beating the January 6, 2006 Drake & Josh Go Hollywood TV movie by +4% (with T9-14), and +6% (P2+), as well as Nick's competition on Friday night by triple digit percentages in all target demographics.
More than 5.8 million total viewers (P2+) tuned in for the event. The premiere hooked kids 6-11 and tweens, delivering an 11.8/2.4 million K6-11 and an 11.1/2.3 million T9-14, both triple digit increases over last year (a +205% K6-11 and +241% T9-14). In particular, the movie did well with boys 6-11, earning a 12.5/1.3 million B6-11. With kids 2-11, the event posted a 9.3/3.1 million, +173% versus last year's like time period.
Kids were also able to vote on their favorite episodes of Drake & Josh, starting July 27, to be part of an eight-hour Drake vs. Josh marathon (Saturday, August 4, noon-8 p.m. ET/PT). Fans voted on 25 of the zaniest Drake & Josh episodes, and the marathon ended up being the top 16 episodes as voted on by viewers on Nick.com. Almost 625,000 votes were received as part of the week-long voting process. Shrimpylympics interlaced the marathon of favorite episodes with Drake & Josh competing in various events.
In addition, the Drake & Josh: Really Big Shrimp special online TV site on www.nick.com, which launched July 27, generated more than 1.7 million page views. A special Drake & Josh: Really Big Shrimp themed game, which launched August 2, ranked in the top 10 games for the week and generated 258,000 game plays. Additionally Drake & Josh videos on TurboNick, www.turbonick.com, garnered more than 2.1 million streams since its launch on the broadband service.
The Drake & Josh: Really Big Shrimp TV movie adventure follows Josh as he botches the record deal he sealed for his wannabe rock star stepbrother Drake and then attempts to pull off a tape switcheroo that lands the duo in even more trouble. The series and the TV movie come courtesy of executive producer/creator Dan Schneider and his Schneider's Bakery, Inc.
