Thousands of Guitarists Flood Welles Park With Music in an Attempt to Break the Guinness World Record Tuesday Night, August 7
WHO: The entire 60-person Old Town School guitar faculty will instruct an anticipated 2,000 participants... WHAT: in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the "World's Largest Music Lesson"... WHEN: Tuesday, August 7 at 7:30 pm... *Registration will begin at 6 p.m., with the lesson commencing promptly at 7:30 p.m. WHERE: Welles Park Gazebo at Sunnyside and Claremont Avenues. *** YOU ARE CORDIALLY INVITED TO COVER *** OTHER: The Old Town School launched in 1957 years ago with a group guitar lesson and now celebrates its 50th Anniversary by giving Chicago this record breaking event. Bau Graves, Executive Director of the Old Town School, will be available for interviews. Veteran instructor Steve Levitt will lead the entire guitar faculty in teaching the songs "Jambalaya" and "This Land is Your Land" in the key of D. Guitar players of all levels are welcome to participate, but must bring their own instruments. The current World Record was set on May 12, 2006, and included 539 participants being taught to play the harmonica in Montreux, Switzerland. The Old Town School of Folk Music, the nation's largest independent community arts school, is a not-for-profit organization that teaches and celebrates music and cultural expressions rooted in the traditions of diverse Chicago, American and global communities. Each week close to 6,000 students of all ages participate in hundreds of classes and workshops in music, dance, theater and art, and over 160 concerts and performances are produced yearly in the School's critically acclaimed Gary and Laura Maurer Concert Hall. The Old Town School of Folk Music is located in Chicago at 4544 N. Lincoln Avenue, with an additional location at 909 West Armitage Avenue.
