The Concert for John: Exclusive Cleveland Tribute Marks 25th Anniversary of Beatle John Lennon's Death

The Concert for John: Exclusive Cleveland Tribute Marks 25th Anniversary of Beatle John Lennon's Death

CLEVELAND, Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- On the eve of what would be rock legend and former Beatle John Lennon's 65th birthday, plans were announced today for The Concert for John ( http://www.abbeyroadontheriver.com/concertforjohn ), presented by 365 Events, The Cleveland Agora and Friday! in the Plain Dealer. The event scheduled for Dec. 10, 2005 will feature 10 bands over 11 hours performing the music of John Lennon from the Cavern Days of the Beatles through his solo career. A portion of each ticket sold will be donated to the Plain Dealer Charities and the Brady Campaign's effort to stop gun violence in memory of John Lennon, whose music continues to promote peace to people across cultures and generations.

Lennon died in New York City when an obsessed fan, said to be hearing voices, stalked and then attacked Lennon as he exited a limousine in front of his home, The Dakota, across from Central Park. Ironically, among items later collected from the assassin was a record album that Lennon had autographed for his killer earlier that evening.

"This all-day event, exclusively in Cleveland, will be a remembrance of the man and his music, but ultimately a celebration," said Gary Jacob, a lifelong fan and producer of The Concert for John. Jacob, who co-produces Abbey Road On The River, an annual Beatles festival which began in Cleveland, added, "John Lennon contributed far more to our culture than just music; he inspired us to seek peace and love our fellow man. His legacy will be preserved forever."

The musical acts coming together for this concert include some of the world's greatest Beatles and Lennon tributes. Headliner Tim Piper and Working Class Hero are a world-renowned Lennon tribute and have been lauded by Paul McCartney for Piper's physical and musical resemblance to John. Also performing are talented and popular acts from the United States and Canada including British Export, Instant Karma, Hal Bruce, All You Need Is Love and Mark Staycer. The event will include live music, and collectibles, and the award-winning film documentary "Imagine: John Lennon."

With interest coming from several Lennon friends and acquaintances, Jacob promises the day will be emotional and memorable.

Tickets on sale Sun. Oct. 09, 2005 (John's birthday) at Ticketmaster and Agora Box office.
