Russell Tribute Features Classic Game Show Appearances on 'Match Game'

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Oct. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Beginning Monday, Oct. 10 from 3:30-4:00 PM ET/PT, GSN will be airing a week-long MATCH GAME tribute to beloved comedian Nipsey Russell, who passed away Sunday in New York. The national television personality Russell appeared on numerous variety, talk and game shows during his career and GSN has uncovered some of his classic moments as a panelist on the Gene Rayburn-hosted show, MATCH GAME, which the network will feature each day of the week. The Russell-specific GSN tribute shows span four years from 1974 to 1978.

In addition to his entertaining appearances on game shows, Russell was a regular on "Car 54, Where Are You?," and was the Tin Man in the 1978 film version of "The Wiz." He also was one of the first Black game show hosts with NBC's "Your Number's Up" in 1985.
