thePlatform Showcases New Release of Media Publishing System at IBC2005
More Than 200 Content Owners Now Connected to MPS, Enabling Carrier-Grade Audio and Video Syndication, Management and Publishing over Broadband and Mobile Networks
AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, Sept. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- thePlatform(R), a leading provider of digital audio and video publishing solutions, today announced the latest release of thePlatform Media Publishing System (MPS). MPS is a comprehensive digital media publishing solution, enabling content owners, aggregators, and enterprises to manage and deliver digital media content to PCs, mobile devices and TVs. MPS now has improved integration with third-party technologies such as Digital Rapids, which enables secure automated real-time encoding for on-demand delivery over IP-networks. thePlatform will preview the new MPS release at Stand M110 of the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) 2005, as part of the IBC Mobile Zone.
"Together with thePlatform MPS, Digital Rapids Stream Z enables content producers to get the highest-quality secure video along with the most comprehensive management and publishing capabilities," said Brick Eksten, president of Digital Rapids. "This is the best of both worlds for content owners who wish to deliver over broadband and mobile networks."
thePlatform also announced that more than 200 content providers are now connected to MPS, including ABC News, CBS MarketWatch, Fox Interactive Media, The Weather Channel, and many others. In addition to these companies, many media owners and aggregators today use MPS to easily syndicate and publish audio and video content over broadband and mobile networks.
Content owners or aggregators can deploy MPS as a carrier-grade hosted (ASP) solution, or as a self-hosted or hybrid application. Content owners such as CourtTV, CNBC Dow Jones, Primedia, Scripps Networks, The Wall Street Journal Online, and media aggregators such as Comcast ("The Fan"), Microsoft (WindowsMedia.com, MSN VideoDownloads), and Verizon Wireless (V CAST) use MPS to easily aggregate, manage and publish their digital media.
"MPS is a proven system for audio and video aggregation, management, syndication and publishing, powering the network-effect between leading content owners and aggregators," said Ian Blaine, co-founder and CEO of thePlatform. "Our latest available features, including advanced support for digital rights management and integrated real-time video encoding, will help our customers even better monetize their assets over IP-based broadband and mobile networks."
Key MPS enhancements that enable better integration with third-party tools and technologies include:
* Secure Automated Real-time Encoding using Digital Rapids: MPS is now tightly integrated with the Digital Rapids StreamZ encoding solution, enabling content owners to capture and encode content automatically in real-time for on-demand delivery. Encoding can be fully automated, enabling new channels to be added seamlessly, and for another encoder to take over should failure occur during the process. And now using MPS for Windows Media Video 9 (Microsoft's implementation of VC-1, the proposed SMPTE standard) content, content owners can simultaneously secure that content with Windows Media DRM 10. MPS creates the DRM profile on the encoding machine and manages the generated licenses and keys inside MPS. * Secure Encoding using the Windows Media Encoder: MPS now also supports live DRM with integrated support for the Windows Media Encoder (WME) 9 Series. As WME encodes the content using WME, it can automatically secure it with DRM. Content producers using MPS can easily create encoding profiles in the WME that automatically link to DRM licenses generated in MPS. * MPS SDK APIs: With these APIs, MPS now enables easier integration with third-party transcoding applications. MPS will preview API- level support for tight integration with third-party transcoding applications, enabling even broader format delivery, including those prevalent in mobile applications such as 3GPP, H.263, H.264, AAC, AAC+ and others. * Enhanced Windows Media DRM 10 support: MPS will support DRM license chaining and revocation. License chaining authorizes and authenticates a user once (as opposed to every time he/she tries to access content), making it easier to acquire content licenses via subscription-based services. License revocation support from MPS will enable service providers to disable content playback on PCs or devices should the consumer lose authorization to access the content.
thePlatform will also preview improved commerce support for subscription management. MPS will soon enable more flexible subscription options, such as coupons, credits, and promotions, as well as more precise subscriber activation and de-activation capabilities.
