By combining Cabot's Digital Video Broadcast (DVB) middleware stack, Aurora, with LSI Logic's new single-chip, DoMiNo(R) 8623 (DMN-8623) and 8673 (DMN-8673) DVD recorder processor solutions (also announced today, http://www.lsilogic.com/news/product_news/2005_09_05.html ), consumer electronics manufacturers can bring products to market faster, more cost-effectively and with less risk. With the integration of digital TV reception into advanced DVD recorders or hard disk drive (HDD)/DVD combination recorder products, manufacturers can address the accelerating transition from analog TV to digital TV broadcast in Europe and other geographies.

Aurora is a pan-European, open standards-based middleware stack for free- to-air digital terrestrial and satellite receivers that can be configured to meet the unique market requirements of any DTT network and interactive standard, including MHEG-5 and MHP. The tight integration of the Aurora stack with LSI Logic's DMN-8623 and DMN-8673 DVD recorder processor solutions will ensure that the both functionality and user experience of DVD recorders is optimized.

Both the DMN-8623 and DMN-8673 are highly integrated single-chip DVD recorder solutions, which essentially integrate the key functions of a DVD recorder and a set-top box, significantly reducing the bill-of-material cost. The DMN-8623 supports the recording and playback of one digital or analog TV channel or video stream for single-drive DVD recorders, while the DMN-8673 supports the recording of two digital or analog TV streams to a hard disk drive with simultaneous playback in combination HDD/DVD recorders.
