Newest HD Radio Products for the Home to Be Showcased at CEDIA Expo 2005
Attendees Can See and Hear the Next Generation of Digital AM and FM Radio at the ADA, Boston Acoustics, Rotel and Yamaha Booths
INDIANAPOLIS, Sept. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- HD Radio(TM) broadcasts will be heard across the tradeshow floor at CEDIA Expo 2005 as leading consumer electronics manufacturers display the latest HD Radio-enabled products for the home. With more than 500 digital AM and FM stations on the air, HD Radio technology is enjoying huge momentum among broadcasters, manufacturers and consumers thanks to its superior sound quality, potential for greatly increased content through multicasting and advanced data features.
HD Radio technology can be heard at the show at ADA's booth 160, Boston Acoustics' booth 727, Rotel's booth 396 and Yamaha's booth 166.
"Following a successful introduction in the mobile audio market, we are now seeing the first HD Radio receivers for the home begin to reach consumers," said Robert Struble, President and CEO of iBiquity Digital, the innovator behind the technology. "The excitement for these new products has been further heightened by the recent explosion of interest in multicasting, which allows FM stations to offer new programming channels."
HD Radio technology transmits digital audio and data alongside existing AM and FM analog signals, allowing listeners with HD Radio-compatible receivers to enjoy CD-quality sound, while virtually eliminating the static, hiss, pops and fades typically associated with analog radio. Beyond delivering superior sound, the technology provides a platform for advanced new services, including scrolling text on receiver display screens (e.g., artist names & song titles, weather forecasts, school closings); delivery of real-time traffic updates to vehicles; and multicasting -- a feature that allows FM stations to broadcast up to eight digital channels of programming in addition to existing analog signals over a single frequency. Stations across the country began adding secondary channels to their broadcasts in 2005 and have added complementary content on free terrestrial radio nationwide.
Indianapolis, home to CEDIA Expo 2005, boasts 14 stations broadcasting in HD Radio technology, including Clear Channel's WFBQ-FM 94.7, which is also multicasting. Other on-air Indianapolis stations include: Susquehanna Radio Corporation's WFMS-FM 95.5, WISG-FM 93.9 and WJJK-FM 104.5; Metropolitan Indianapolis Public Broadcasting's WFYI-FM 90.1; Emmis' WIBC-AM 1070 and WNOU- FM 93.1; University of Indianapolis' WICR-FM 88.7; Clear Channel's WNDE-AM 1260 and WRZX-FM 103.3; ABC Radio's WRDZ-FM 98.3; Entercom's WTPI-FM 107.9 and WZPL-FM 99.5 and Radio One's WYJZ-FM 100.9.
