Discussion Will Explore LGBT Roles in Film Industry June 23

"Out at CHS" 2005 Series Concludes with "The Celluloid Closet: LGBT in Film"

CHICAGO, June 8 /PRNewswire/ -- A lively discussion featuring Kimberly Peirce, writer and director of the Academy Award(R)-winning film Boys Don't Cry, will wrap up this year's "Out at CHS" series on Thursday, June 23. The discussion will address the roles that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) individuals have in cinema, both in front of and behind the camera. Joining Peirce in the discussion will be Bill Zwecker, Chicago Sun-Times entertainment columnist, and Ron Gregg, programming director for the Committee on Cinema and Media Studies at the University of Chicago. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a cocktail reception at The Second City, 1616 N Wells Street. At 6:30 p.m. the program will move next door for a panel discussion, to Loews Piper's Alley Theater, 1608 N Wells Street. Admission is $10; $5 for students and CHS members with valid ID. Concluding its second year of public programs, "Out at CHS: Exploring the LGBT Past" is a multi-year initiative that explores the history of the LGBT community both in Chicago and across the country through research, collecting and public programs. "Out at CHS" is a joint presentation of the Chicago Historical Society (CHS), Center on Halsted and the University of Chicago Lesbian and Gay Studies Project.

The Elizabeth Morse Charitable Trust is the generous sponsor of "Out at CHS: Exploring the LGBT Past," with additional support provided by UBS.

The Chicago Historical Society, a major museum and research center for Chicago and American history, is located on Clark Street at North Avenue, and can be reached by CTA buses 11, 22, 36, 72, 151 and 156. The museum is open Monday through Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Thursday through Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 5:00p.m. Suggested admission is $5 for adults; $3 for seniors and students (ages 13-22) with valid school ID; $1 for children (ages 6-12); free for members and children under 6.
