Attorney General's Do Not Call Ad Campaign Wins NJ Ad Club Award

Help America Vote Act Spot Starring Jason Alexander Places Third

CHESTER, N.J., June 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, GraficaGroup announced that Magic Moment, the Do Not Call TV ad campaign it created for the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General, won a top prize in the Television category at the New Jersey Advertising Club's Annual Award Ceremony. Since the Do Not Call program went into effect one year ago, New Jersey residents have registered 3.2 million telephone numbers, due in part to the awareness campaign launched last year by Grafica.

"I am proud that the Do Not Call initiative has been universally supported by the residents of New Jersey," said Peter Harvey, Attorney General of New Jersey. "In our TV campaign, Grafica did a great job capturing how the Do Not Call law preserves our limited family time and protects us from annoying salespeople."

The winning TV spot, titled Magic Moment, features a family enjoying dinner together without the unwelcome disruption of annoying telemarketers. As a soft instrumental version of the pop song This Magic Moment plays, the following text appears: "This is the sound of a phone not ringing during dinner. This family is signed up for the New Jersey Do Not Call program. With the toughest law in the nation protecting your privacy and your magic moments." The spot then urges residents to visit New Jersey's Do Not Call Web site (www.donotcall.gov) to sign up.

New Jersey's Do Not Call law requires that telemarketers register annually with the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs, disclose whether their principals have been convicted of a crime, and refrain from calling telephone numbers on the Do Not Call list.

"We balanced the Attorney General's tough stance against the invasion of privacy issue with an image of what's gained by the legislation -- a family having dinner undisturbed," said John Pearson, Creative Director, GraficaGroup. "When you really think about it, dinnertime is a private, treasured time in a family's hectic day, one of the few times when they can spend quality time together, which is exactly what we wanted to communicate."

Additionally, "REGISTER: Help America Vote," another popular TV campaign that Grafica created for the Office of Attorney General (which starred Jason Alexander from "Seinfeld"), took the third spot in the same television category.

The Ad Club's 36th Annual New Jersey Awards competition invited members of the Garden State's advertising and communications industry to compete in 125 categories, ranging from print and electronic media advertising and printed materials to direct marketing, photography, and out-of-home advertising. A panel of judges from the Long Island Advertising Club and the Advertising Production Club of New York determined the winning entries/campaigns. Awards were distributed at a dinner held on May 18 at Mayfair Farms in West Orange.
