FM Multicasting and Traffic Data Service Being Demonstrated at NAB in the HD Radio Booth, #N2437
LAS VEGAS, April 18 /PRNewswire/ -- National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show -- Westwood One, Inc. (NYSE:WON), the nation's largest radio network and provider of traffic reporting services, announced today that it will make its expansive lineup of marquee news, sports, talk and entertainment programming, as well as its best-in-class traffic and information content available to HD Radio(TM) FM broadcasters for turn-key programming of multicast services.
AM and FM radio stations will now have the ability to broadcast Westwood One programming and information in crystal-clear, CD-quality sound, through the use of digital HD Radio technology and their current frequencies. In addition, a single FM station can now broadcast more than one channel of audio programming, a capability called multicasting.
"Westwood One is thrilled to be at the forefront of the HD Radio revolution, providing AM and FM stations with our vast lineup of high-profile programming choices to build new channels," said Shane Coppola, President & CEO of Westwood One. "We are excited about this opportunity to bring listeners nationwide the variety they desire, and we look forward to working with HD Radio broadcasters to provide it."
Throughout the NAB show, Westwood One's audio programming and traffic data content will be showcased at the HD Radio/iBiquity Digital booth (#N2437). Home and vehicle radios will be receiving HD Radio broadcasts that provide a glimpse of the depth of local programming that Westwood One will provide. In addition, an integrated HD Radio receiver and GPS Navigation system will demonstrate the value of real-time traffic overlaid on navigation systems, enhancing the value of local traffic information delivered by broadcasters.
"On average, one radio station a day upgrades to HD Radio broadcasting," said Robert Struble, President and CEO of iBiquity Digital Corporation, the only company that is developing and licensing HD Radio technology. "Stations need new content to satisfy the 21st century listeners' demand for more choices. We're very pleased that Westwood One has taken the initiative to work to offer stations a plethora of options for their multicasting services."
No single company delivers a greater number of programming choices to radio audiences across America than Westwood One, providing radio stations with the highest quality name brand news, sports, talk, entertainment, and information programming available. Westwood One is also the largest supplier of local traffic and information to radio and television stations, consumer web sites, automotive navigation aides and wireless data services, maintaining a level of infrastructure that is unsurpassed in the traffic and information industry. Westwood One is the only company with a national footprint when it comes to reporting traffic, touting an infrastructure that includes over 60 operations centers, more than 100 aircraft, over 100 proprietary fixed cameras and relationships with numerous public transportation agencies.
