Harris Corporation Debuts Next-Generation Platform of H-Class(TM) Play-out Automation and H-Class Media Ingest

LAS VEGAS, April 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- In order to support evolving multi-service broadcast delivery models, Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) today announced its plans to provide two key applications that are part of Harris' H-Class(TM) Play-out Automation Solution and H-Class Ingest Solution: H-Class Broadcast Presentation Manager (BPM), Harris' next-generation play-out automation offering; and H-Class Media Ingest, a tool suite for automating the mission-critical, front-end media ingest process. Architected on an open, standards-based platform, the union of BPM and Media Ingest creates a solution that addresses broadcasters' "ingest once" needs across the digital rich-media enterprise while ensuring real-time operations with file-based workflows.

The joint automation-ingest platform solution enables customers to automatically process content for delivery in multiple formats for a range of customer devices, expedite real-time collaborative production for various types of non-linear multi-channel delivery models, and utilize intelligent and customizable "rules" to meet workflow requirements and eliminate labor- intensive processes. H-Class BPM with H-Class Media Ingest will be demonstrated at NAB 2005 in the Harris Booth #SU10048. General availability of H-Class solutions is targeted for the third quarter of this year.

"Harris is bringing to market a next-generation automation-ingest solution within the H-Class Content Delivery Platform," said Jim Woods, vice president and general manager, Automation and Digital Asset Management Solutions, Harris Broadcast Communications Division. "This system will provide broadcasters and system operators with the ability to cost-effectively support today's delivery models as well as tomorrow's emerging service delivery models. A dynamic interface with traffic and scheduling systems will enable a level of integration and flexibility that is unique in the market. Further, the H-Class BPM Device Controller provides a revolutionary operations model that allows operators to configure their own systems leveraging the library of Harris device drivers."

H-Class BPM tools include Air Manager, Schedule Manager, Resource Manager, Broadcast Monitor and Device Controller. Air Manager controls and monitors real-time channel play-out, and views multiple on-air channels simultaneously while providing operators with full access to content metadata, device storage information and system status. Schedule Manager is a distributed, secure, multi-user configurable tool that enables offline or online editing of play- out schedules. Resource Manager enables priority-based sharing through distributed management and access to resources across the enterprise for more efficient use of devices and improved redundancy strategies. Broadcast Monitor provides the ability to view multiple channel play-out schedules simultaneously on one easy-to-read, highly configurable display; it also provides the ability to monitor channels and play-out from anywhere within the facility or across WANs.

New device control enhancements are embodied in the H-Class Device Controller, providing a scalable and highly configurable solution to network- based device control and management that supports field upgrades and provides the ability to add/activate drivers without going offline. The controller also supports simulated operation and a range of redundancy approaches.

With the H-Class Media Ingest application, operators can automate the media ingest process, eliminating the need to manually enter content meta- data. Media Ingest's intelligent and intuitive business rules automatically ingest rich media from various content distribution services. The tools also enable the scheduled capture of live feeds and move media across the entire enterprise. The Media Ingest tools include Ingest Manager, Automated Ingest and Scheduled Ingest. Harris' approach reduces the number of ingest tools an operator needs to purchase.

By utilizing existing hardware and upgrade packaging, Harris will offer a cost-effective migration path to H-Class Broadcast Presentation Manager for existing ADC and D-Series customers.
