Scientific-Atlanta Expands Options for Cable Operators With New Cable Modem EMTA

SAN FRANCISCO, April 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The National Show -- Booth #6158 -- Scientific-Atlanta has expanded its support for the triple play of services -- video, voice and data -- with the announcement of the DPX2213(TM) cable modem with embedded media terminal adapter (EMTA). The DPX2213 meets PacketCable(TM) 1.0, DOCSIS(TM) 2.0 and DOCSIS 1.1 specifications, supports two-line voice services along with a 10/100BaseT Ethernet port and a USB 1.1 port for high-speed data connectivity.
"The popularity of bundled video, data and voice services from cable operators is growing, and with this important addition to our cable modem with EMTA suite of products, we are providing a new avenue to support the triple play," said Himanshu Parikh, vice president and general manager, IP Subscriber Networks business at Scientific-Atlanta. "The number of Voice over IP cable modems we are shipping continues to grow, representing over 25 percent of our current volume of IP product shipments."
The DPX2213 uses advanced multi-country line interface technology to provide toll-quality telephone service using existing in-home wiring. The DPX2213 accepts up to two plug-in Lithium-Ion battery cartridges, each of which can supply up to 8 hours of stand-by operation in the event of an AC power failure power. The plug-in battery cartridge can be easily replaced by the end user without the use of tools, disconnecting any cables or interrupting telephony service.
To facilitate setup and troubleshooting, the DPX2213 includes WebWizard - a browser-based user interface. In addition, the eight LEDs on the front panel provide an informative and easy-to-understand display that indicates cable modem status and real-time data transmission activity.
