Konami Licenses Zuma Beach Entertainment Music Property
MALIBU, Calif., April 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Zuma Beach Entertainment ("Zuma Beach") and recently acquired Marcu Music Company ("Marcu") today announced that Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. (KDEI), a wholly owned subsidiary of Konami Corporation (NYSE:KNM) has acquired a worldwide license to use of the Academy Award Winning song "(I've had) The Time of My Life," for Konami Karaoke Revolution (Vol. 4). Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc is a leading, global developer, publisher and manufacturer of electronic entertainment properties, specializing in the home video game market.
Karaoke Revolution is the latest in Konami's award-winning line of music video games, a karaoke video game that lets you sing your favorite tunes while Karaoke Revolution judges you. Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Sony Corp which markets the PlayStation(R) family of products has turned PlayStation(R)2 into a high-end, interactive karaoke machine with Karaoke Revolution. Featuring an impressive list of tunes from current hits to yesterday's classics, Karaoke Revolution gives gamers of all types something to sing about.
"It is important for Zuma to commingle our music properties with popular mass distributed consumer products," said Daniel P. Cannon, Chairman and CEO. "Increased market exposure of a 'hit' product should directly translate into increased reoccurring revenue generation."
Karaoke Revolution is the game that Time Magazine rated #1 for 2003. It hits all the high notes with the top hits, karaoke favorites and classic artists that make the game so popular across so many age groups. Karaoke Revolution combines voice recognition technology -- which judges and scores players as they sing (solo, duet or head-to-head) their way to stardom -- with a variety of characters, outfits and venues. With over 35 new songs from timeless classics like "Love Shack" and "New York, New York" to today's hottest hits like "Burn" and "The Reason", Karaoke Revolution has been referred to as the ultimate party game!
It was announced March 3, 2005 that Zuma Beach Entertainment acquired Marcu's share of the revenues and was assigned exclusive rights to income of the net publishing share derived from the licenses and music rights, contracts and royalties from the 1987 Academy Award winning song, "(I've had) The Time of My Life," co-written by Donald Markowitz for the 1987 hit motion picture, "Dirty Dancing."
Dirty Dancing has just begun a world tour as a theatrical musical to sell- out crowds in Australia and is on its way to Broadway. The movie has grossed over $170 million to date, making it one of the most profitable independent films of all time. Musically, Dirty Dancing re-wrote record books in the music industry and became a phenomenon all its own, launching two different multi- platinum soundtracks. Sixteen years after its initial release and three follow-up releases, the film's soundtrack has sold over 32 million units worldwide. In recent years BMG released a newly remastered Ultimate Dirty Dancing CD and Artisan Home Entertainment released the Dirty Dancing Ultimate Edition DVD. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) ranks the soundtrack as one of the Top-Selling Albums of All-Time.
