Majority of U.S. Adults Think Chemicals and Pollutants Are More of a Threat Now Than They Were 10 Years Ago

According to Harris Interactive, A majority of U-S adults believe that chemicals and pollutants are more of a threat to people like them now than they were 10 years ago. The public appears to be more worried about certain outdoor air pollutants and chemicals than those indoors but about one in five adults report that they or someone in their household has experienced a chronic health problem (e.g., allergies, lung condition, chronic fatigue, etc.) attributed to indoor air pollutants or chemicals. Summer Job Outlook for Teens: Chances Better for 18-19 Year-Olds; 16-17s Must Sell Themselves; Limited Prospects for 14-15s, Says Expert

Summer job opportunities for those 18 and older will be the greatest. For 16-17 year olds, the job market will be very competitive. Fewer paying jobs will be available for 14-15 year olds according to Renee Ward, founder of www.Teens4Hire.org. USA TODAY and ABC News to Report Special Series on Pain

Approximately 1 in 5 Americans suffers from chronic or recurrent pain, at an estimated cost of 100 billion dollars annually in lost productivity and increased healthcare. Pain causes more disability than cancer and heart disease combined, yet there are less than 200 centers across the U-S that focus on pain management. Studies suggest that roughly half of all Americans who suffer from chronic or recurrent pain simply cannot find a good solution. Pain in children is also an emerging concern, with as many as 20 percent of kids who undergo surgery each year developing chronic pain that lasts long after the body has healed. With so many Americans affected by chronic pain, U-S-A TODAY and A-B-C News will examine the issue in a week-long series beginning Sunday, May 8 on A-B-C and Monday, May 9 in U-S-A TODAY. The series, "The Fight Against Pain" will report on the causes of pain, the impact it has on our lives, work, family and even our mental outlook, and the new and promising treatments on the horizon. U-S-A TODAY and A-B-C News will also look at what can be done to better educate and assist those struggling with pain and explore the types of resources available for them.
