Digital 5 Announces Agreement With CinemaNow to Deliver Premium Video Content Securely Through the Connected Digital Home
LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J., April 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Digital 5, Inc., a leading software provider enabling streaming of multimedia content throughout the connected home, today announced an agreement with CinemaNow, Inc., the leader in broadband video-on-demand distribution. The new partnership will enable the secure streaming of CinemaNow's extensive on-demand video library throughout the connected home via Digital 5's proprietary streaming media technology.
The worldwide value of consumer-oriented video subscription services delivered via the Internet will grow to more than $4.6 billion in 2008, according to In-Stat/MDR (http://www.instat.com/). The high-tech market research firm reports that this market is expanding to include more types of content, as well as extending its reach to Internet hot spots, wireless services, mobile phones and Portable Media Centers.
Digital 5 technologies include support for Microsoft digital rights management (MS DRM), enabling content providers such as CinemaNow to securely distribute video content to multiple networked devices throughout the home, including the television. The process is completely transparent to the consumer who is able to enjoy top Hollywood entertainment directly from the CinemaNow service. Together, these companies provide consumer electronics companies the ability to bring to market digital media devices that will allow access to CinemaNow's vast library of feature-length films, shorts, music concerts, music videos and television programs directly from their television. Currently, CinemaNow's library features video content from over 200 licensors including 20th Century Fox, Disney, MGM, Miramax, Sony, Warner Bros., Lions Gate Entertainment, and Universal.
"As the video-on-demand market continues to grow, one of the many differentiators for IP delivery is its ability to easily access and render video content across multiple devices in the connected home," said Bruce Eisen, President of CinemaNow. "This agreement will enable CinemaNow to offer access to our vast library of titles to be viewed directly on customers' televisions, or anywhere in their networked home. Working with Digital 5 will allow us to expand our number of supported platforms and continue to broaden our reach in the market."
"The ability to access premium video content in the home networking environment is one of the most compelling benefits of our marketplace," said Mike Harris, President of Digital 5, Inc. "Digital 5 is pleased to be working with CinemaNow to provide original equipment manufactures with a complete solution that enables the access to and enjoyment of CinemaNow premium content across the connected digital home."
