ICTV Enters Latin American Market; Deployments Slated With MiTV in Cablemas
LOS GATOS, Calif., and HOUSTON, April 25 /PRNewswire/ -- ICTV(TM), creator of HeadendWare(R), the broadband industry's most powerful platform for the delivery and distribution of compelling interactive television content, and Miracle TV (MiTV) the developer of the unique, centralized hospitality solution for hotels, condos and resorts, today announced an agreement with a cable system operator in Mexico for the launch of next-generation interactive services to hospitality customers.
Under the agreement, ICTV's first in the Latin American market, Miracle TV is deploying its Hospitality Interactive Television System (HiTS) via the HeadendWare platform to enable Cablemas in Cancun to deliver Internet services, e-mail, instant messengers, games and other interactive services to hotel customers throughout the Mexican Riviera (Playa del Carmen to Cancun). The agreement covers the growth of operations to the dozens of hotels, with more than 50,000 rooms in the area.
"Having a partner of MiTV's caliber to help generate new commercial services revenue streams is a significant advantage in an area that is of great interest to our MSO customers and ourselves," said Mike McGrail, president and CEO of ICTV. "Just as our initial deployments have led to launches with major cable operators in the United States, we anticipate that our hospitality success with Cablemas will be followed by additional activity across North and Latin America."
The combined HiTS-HeadendWare solution will enable MiTV to provide powerful new interactive applications, including Internet, messengers and games. Already deployed to more than 3,800 Cancun hotel rooms, the HiTS solution operates with the most popular video on demand servers and hotel property management systems to enable cable operators to grow hotel revenues in a cost-effective, scalable fashion. "Our system provides operators with the tools they need to leverage their current infrastructure," said Miguel Kramis, CEO of MiTV. "Through the deployment of HeadendWare, we can increase the ability of cable operators to tackle the underserved hospitality market with a superior product and service."
"We were seeking ways to improve our interactive services to deliver those applications that the hotels and guests desire, without investing significantly in new equipment," said Carlos Alvarez, CEO of Cablemas. "By working with ICTV and MiTV, we are able to provide the technology and the services the hospitality industry needs to generate new revenues and increase guest satisfaction."
