National Anthem Project Launches From Nation's Capital
What: The National Anthem Project: Restoring America's Voice, a multi-year effort led by the National Association for Music Education (MENC) to re-teach Americans "The Star-Spangled Banner" launches with a live performance from Washington, D.C. to spotlight the important role music education plays in preserving American musical and patriotic traditions
Who: -- U.S. Marine troops -- Members of the United States Congress -- 200 schoolchildren from music programs nationwide -- The legendary Oak Ridge Boys -- "The President's Own" U.S. Marine Band
When: Thursday, March 10 from 8:00 a.m.-9:00 am EST
Where: West Front of the U.S. Capitol
Background: -- 2/3 of Americans don't know the words to the national anthem -- MENC is the world's largest arts education association -- Support from Mrs. Laura Bush as honorary chairperson -- The Jeep brand serves as national presenting sponsor -- The National Anthem Project continues for the next several years with activities in every state in the country including sporting event activities, special patriotic-themed media relations initiatives, community events and school curriculum programs
