Lacy J. Dalton to Perform at Benefit Concert to Feed Starving Wild Horses
VENTURA, Calif., March 1 /PRNewswire/ -- On Saturday March 6th, at 6pm Country singer, Lacy J. Dalton, will perform a benefit concert at the Ventura County Fairgrounds to help feed over 500 starving horses. Joining her will be actor Malcolm MacDowell.
In addition to the concert there will be both live and silent auctions offering an array of items such as a new Lincoln truck, an autographed guitar by Tim McGraw, a new Logan horse trailer, paintings, jewelry, Patagonia fleece blankets, collectibles, massages, a cruise, and many other items. Also included in the $45.00 concert admission fee is dinner provided by the famed Marshall's Bodacious Bar-B-Que. 100% of the proceeds of the benefit concert, auction and dinner will go to feeding the horses.
Sponsors for the event include Wells Fargo, Mid-State Bank and K-Hay FM 100.7.
Upon discovering over approximately 1,000 wild horses in severely dehydrated and starved condition on a privately owned ranch in Santa Ynez Valley, Tom Sneddon, the District Attorney of Santa Barbara investigated and subsequently ordered the Sheriff's Dept. to seize the emaciated and neglected horses.
A group of concerned strangers came together to raise money to feed the horses. The county had no money to feed them nor did any animal welfare group step up to help. At this point, the non-profit organization, Wild Horses In Need was born (WIN). "We decided to name it WIN because we were going to win this. We were not going to let one more horse starve as hundreds of others already had," said Jean-Marie Webster, co founder of WIN. Since then, many people have donated their time, energy and talent to deal with the orphaned herd -- the victims of the horrific situation. According to WIN President, Jes MaHarry, "We need to help these horses because it's the right thing to do. While the cost to feed them is extraordinarily high -- $18,000 per month, the reward is even greater."
