Multi-Platinum Recording Artist John Mayer Scores Two Grammy Nominations Including Song of the Year for 'DAUGHTERS'
Multi-Platinum Recording Artist John Mayer Scores Two Grammy Nominations Including Song of the Year for 'DAUGHTERS' VH1 Special, 'John Mayer Has A TV Show,' Premieres Tonight, Thursday, December 9 NEW YORK, Dec. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter and multi-platinum recording artist John Mayer has just secured his latest pair of Grammy nominations. Mayer, who took home the Best Male Pop Vocal Performance trophy in 2002 (for "Your Body Is A Wonderland"), is in the running for that same category this year for "Daughters," which has also been nominated for Song of the Year. John's latest Grammy nominations cap off an amazing year in which the artist headlined one of the most successful outdoor shed tours of the summer and saw his debut album, Room for Squares, certified 4X platinum while his critically-acclaimed follow-up, Heavier Things, was certified 2X platinum by the RIAA. "Daughters," the latest single from Heavier Things, has been heating up radio airwaves with major market airplay coast-to-coast: the song is #1 on the Top 40 Adult Monitor and Modern Adult Monitor and has recently crossed formats into the Top 40. A video for "Daughters" can be seen on MTV and is currently VH1's #1 most-played clip. A special EP edition of "Daughters," which includes John's original acoustic demo of the song, is currently available online only at iTunes. Mayer will star in his own VH1 special, "John Mayer Has A TV Show," premiering tonight, Thursday, December 9, at 11pm (ET/PT). Shot guerrilla-style during John's summer tour, the 30 minute show is one part documentary, one part travelogue and one part sketch comedy, offering an entertaining 'behind-the-scenes' look at John's life on the road. Entertainment Weekly raved that the show "defies convention by giving the tired celeb-reality genre a refreshing infusion of (gasp!) originality and self-awareness, with his free-form combo of talk show and comedy-sketch gags." B+ New Yorkers will have a chance to see inside John Mayer's creative process when the Grammy-winning singer/songwriter sits down to discuss music and other topics with New York Times music critic Jon Pareles at a Benefit For Broadway event at the Al Hirschfield Theatre in Manhattan on Monday, January 10, 2005. The special evening with John Mayer is to benefit The Actors' Fund All Hirschfield Free Health Clinic and MusiCares Foundation.
