Starz Entertainment Group Announces Promotions of Three Programming Executives ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Dec. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Starz Entertainment Group LLC (SEG) announced today the promotion of three programming executives. All work out of the company's headquarters in Englewood, CO. Debbie Alther has been promoted from director to executive director of program planning and scheduling reporting to Jonathan Shair, vice president. Alther oversees the programming and promotional long- and short-term planning for all of the STARZ! channels, and develops the programming mix and models for existing and new channels. Additionally, she works in conjunction with the IT Department to develop software solutions for current and future programming and on-air promotion needs. Alther joined SEG in 1996, and successfully directed the launches of Black STARZ!, STARZ! Cinema, STARZ! Family and STARZ! Kids. She has played an integral role in the development of data management systems and long-term strategies to enhance program and promotion placement. Her 20 plus years of industry experience include positions at Falcon Cable in Los Angeles and Jones Intercable. She is an active member of WICT and is an art enthusiast, writer and loves movies. She is an Arizona native, and moved to Denver in 1991 where she met her husband of eight years, Bill Alther. Christine Flynn, formerly director or on-air promotion, is now executive director of creative services reporting to Che Che Mata, senior vice president. Flynn oversees the creative staff and all on-air promotional and interstitial programming for the Encore channels, and directs network production services. Flynn joined SEG in 1997 and has launched and repositioned several channels, developed unique interstitials and directed the Encore creative staff to numerous awards. She started her television career in game shows, and was one of the original ESPN staff, spending nearly a decade there. She has also held positions at HBO, Fox Sports, Gannett Broadcasting and Liberty Media. She is an active member of Promax, CTAM and WICT and is a graduate of St. Lawrence University. An active social services volunteer, she enjoys rollerblading, design and driving. Flynn is a New York native, and resides in the Aspen Valley and Denver, CO. Ellen Mednick, has been promoted to executive director, on-air promotion. Mednick was previously a director, and also reports to Mata. In her new position, Mednick will oversee on-air promotion and creation of interstitial programming for the STARZ! channels and several Encore channels. Since joining SEG in 1997, Mednick has managed the launches and re-launches of STARZ! Cinema, Black STARZ!, STARZ! Kids and the Action channel. She also served as creative director for "Unstoppable: A Conversation with Melvin Van Peebles, Gordon Parks and Ossie Davis," an original film for Black STARZ! and "Images of Indians" for Encores Westerns channel. Earlier Mednick was a writer and producer for the USA Network and Sci Fi Channel, and creative director of the David M. Winfield Foundation. She is the winner of numerous industry awards including three Pro Max Golds and three Gold Mark awards. She is active in WICT, Pro Max and the Denver Film Society. Also a New York native, she moved to Denver five years ago and has two sons, Rafael and Aron.
