Centex Homes, HomeAid America and ABC-TV's 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' Embark on Build of a Lifetime in Seattle Area

Centex Homes, HomeAid America and ABC-TV's 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' Embark on Build of a Lifetime in Seattle Area Seven Days Will Change a Family's Life Forever DALLAS, Nov. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- We can all get by with a little help from our friends. It's just easier when your friends happen to be ABC-TV's No. 1 rated show, "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition;" Centex Homes, one of the nation's premier homebuilders; and national non-profit HomeAid America. Beginning Nov. 10, a dream team of miracle workers from these partners will begin the build of a lifetime for Seattle-area resident Roseanne Dore and her three daughters. Centex Homes will have five, around-the-clock days, plus nine hours, to complete the custom, 3,200-square-foot home from start to finish. A widowed single mother of three daughters, Roseanne Dore is no stranger to hardship. The family was dealt a tremendous blow in March when their home, originally built by Roseanne and her husband, burned to the ground. Following the devastating news of the fire, Roseanne quickly learned there were issues with her insurance policy, leaving her with a structure deemed unsuitable to live in and no immediate hope of rebuilding it. As the local elementary school's cafeteria server, Roseanne's income is limited and her only choice was to move her family into a utility shed until she could determine her next steps. Roseanne applied through "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" for assistance and was asked to submit a videotape explaining the family's circumstances. After review, the show's producers selected her as a recipient. The Puget Sound-area build is scheduled to begin with the family surprise and move-out on Nov. 10, and demolition and construction is set to begin Nov. 12. Construction will continue around the clock through Nov. 17. Team leader Ty Pennington and his fellow designers, along with Centex Homes' builders, HomeAid America, its local chapter HomeAid Seattle Metro, and strategic trade partners, will build a new home from the ground up for the Dore family. The house, approximately 3,200 square feet with six bedrooms, will be built on 2.5 acres of the Dore's land. Many other exciting amenities will be revealed to the Dore family on Nov. 17 when they are presented with the keys to their new home. Collectively, more than 700 Centex Homes builders, with help from the Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties, will work 16 eight-hour shifts to make the home a reality for the Dore family. The initiative will leave the Dores with a home valued at approximately $500,000 and demonstrates the project partners' continuing dedication to the community through donating time, resources and labor. "At Centex Homes, we build entire neighborhoods and we know the value of a quality home in helping to support a stable family and a positive lifestyle," said Tim Eller, Chairman and CEO of Centex Corporation. "We can think of no better way to help provide a bright future for a family than to build them a quality home. Through our affiliation with HomeAid America, Habitat for Humanity, and other not-for-profit organizations, our people have built and donated more than 200 homes for families across the United States over the past decade." Doug Barnes, division president of Centex Homes in Seattle, said, "It's truly a privilege for us to impact these four lives by doing what we do best: building a quality home. It's a thrill for me to see Centex employees from the West Coast and across the company come together to help not only this amazing family, but also the community at large." HomeAid America, a national not-for-profit organization that builds shelters for the temporarily homeless, selected Centex Homes on the basis of its reputation for building excellence and its longstanding commitment to charitable organizations and causes. Since its inception in 1989, HomeAid America has assisted more than 20,000 temporarily homeless persons across the country. "We looked to Centex Homes as a partner because of its stellar reputation for quality workmanship and its ongoing national support of community service," said Genette Eaton, CEO of HomeAid America. "Centex has moved mountains to help change the future for this family." In addition to supplying the Dores with a dream home, Centex will provide homeowners insurance for the Dores at no cost for one year. This will be the first home built from the ground up since HomeAid America and ABC-TV's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" formed a partnership to build specially selected homes for needy families over the next year for the show's second season. "When we viewed the submission tape from the Dores, it was very easy to see they needed and greatly deserved our assistance. We also quickly realized that a brand new home, not a remodel, was in order," said "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" Senior Producer Conrad Ricketts. "To do the job right, we sought the assistance of HomeAid America, which connected us with one of the nation's top homebuilders, Centex Homes, through the help of the Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties. HomeAid knew if anyone could meet our production requirements with the kinds of logistical and weather-related challenges this project faces, it was this team."
