Menopause Goes Public: Provocative And Revealing Film Empowers Society With The Truth About Menopause
HOT FLASH HAVOC - narrated by Goldie Hawn - to Air on PBS Stations Nationwide Starting in March 2016
ASPEN, Colo., Feb. 18, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Every woman will go through menopause; every family and workplace is affected by menopause yet few women get the right advice or really know how to navigate this complex stage in their lives. HOT FLASH HAVOC, to be aired on PBS stations across the country starting in early March, will take menopause public, debunking the medical myths and giving women of all ages the tools they need to navigate and advocate for the treatment they need.
For the first time, this 2016 documentary sets the record straight about the U.S. government-funded Women's Health Initiative (WHI) studies released in 2002 and 2004.
Many medical experts feel the WHI findings have been misrepresented. The film makes the case that hormone therapies not only treat the symptoms of menopause, but prevent disease and have the potential for prolonging life.
In addition to health issues, untreated menopause symptoms have far-reaching consequences with working women. A recent study of 500,000 women working for Fortune 500 companies for one year, half of whom had hot flashes and half of whom did not have symptoms, concluded the costs for women with untreated hot flashes were $340 million in additional health care costs, $27.7 million in lost work and 1.5 million extra medical visits.
The movie HOT FLASH HAVOC has been edited for PBS and will be broadcast nationally starting in New York (WNET) on March 5. The film, narrated by Oscar Award-winning actress Goldie Hawn, includes a comprehensive yet entertaining synopsis of the latest medical research available. Included in the score is the song Power Surge, written and performed by Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter Siedah Garrett.
"This film not only sheds light on the confusion stemming from a decade of misguided facts, but conveys poignant personal stories shared by real women and in-depth interviews by the world's most noted experts," said Heidi Houston, the film's executive producer. "It has the power to be a life changing experience for every woman who sees it."
