Dr. Kourosh Maddahi Featured on "The Doctors" After Performing a Life-Saving Smile Makeover

Patient Reveals Results of the Dental Transformation that Saved his Life

LOS ANGELES, May 18, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Celebrity dentist and best-selling author Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, known for pioneering Anti-Aging Dentistry, was featured on the CBS hit series "The Doctors" on Friday after performing a high-risk smile makeover that may have saved a man's life. Along with a highly skilled team of specialists, Dr. Maddahi was not only able to completely restore the patient's smile, but also played a vital role in restoring his health, all free of charge.

The two-part episode followed Tony, a 32-year old man suffering from livedoid vasculopathy, a rare skin disorder for which there is no cure. As a side effect brought on by years of potent medications meant to alleviate his symptoms, Tony's once bright smile had completely degenerated. He contacted "The Doctors" for help. However, it wasn't until Dr. Maddahi examined Tony's mouth that anyone knew how deeply in danger the patient truly was.

"Tony is so lucky he contacted the show when he did," says Dr. Maddahi. "29 of his teeth were broken and each one was deeply infected. If this had gone on much longer, the infection would have likely spread further to the bloodstream, which could have been fatal."

Surgery or no surgery, Tony's life was in danger. His underlying medical condition made his risk of complications during surgery incredibly high, while his severe dental problems might have left him just months away from an early death.

"Because of the severity of Tony's condition, we made the decision to operate almost immediately after taping the first episode," says Dr. Maddahi. "However, in the second episode you can see the entire process paid off. Tony is now safe, happy, and smiling. I am so pleased to have played a part in his newfound health."

In the segment, Tony reveals his ($115,000) smile to viewers, as well as his longtime girlfriend for the first time. After thanking Dr. Maddahi for saving his life and restoring his confidence, Tony bent down on one knee and also thanked his girlfriend, by way of a diamond engagement ring.
