Fort Lauderdale Historical Society Featured as Part of C-SPAN's 2015 Cities Tour - Fort Lauderdale, Taped April 20-22
C-SPAN recorded and will feature city's history and literary life; special to air May 16-17
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., April 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --In partnership with Comcast, C-SPAN is bringing Fort Lauderdale and Riverwalk Arts & Entertainment District partner Fort Lauderdale Historical Society to the national spotlight through its 2015 Cities Tour. The public affairs network selected Fort Lauderdale as a city rich with history and interesting local literary communities to feature on it Book TV and American History TV during special weekends.

C-SPAN began its Fort Lauderdale visit on April 20 with a kick-off event/press conference with Fort Lauderdale Mayor Jack Seiler and Broward County Mayor Tim Ryan at the New River Inn on Las Olas Blvd. While in Fort Lauderdale, C-SPAN taped segments including the "History of Fort Lauderdale" and "Seminole History and Culture," both filmed at the Fort Lauderdale Historical Society/New River Inn. Additional segments will cover the African American Research Library and Port Everglades. During their time in Fort Lauderdale, C-SPAN representatives also conducted community and education outreach.
The programming recorded in Fort Lauderdale will air on non-fiction book channel Book TV/C-SPAN2 Comcast channel 104 and history channel American History TV/C-SPAN3 Comcast channel 105 during C-SPAN's special Fort Lauderdale weekend, May 16-17, 2015. C-SPAN is available in Fort Lauderdale on Comcast channel 14.
In each of the cities the tour visits, the C-SPAN producing team takes specially outfitted Local Content Vehicles to various literary and historic sites as they interview local historians, authors, and civic leaders. They also meet with students, teachers, elected officials, and organizations to talk about C-SPAN's mission in covering public affairs programming, and what the local connections are to national politics.
