2,000 Volunteers Make Change Happen Across Pittsburgh Region As Part Of 14th Annual Comcast Cares Day

Comcast Employees Join Friends and Family Members in Making a Lasting Difference on America's Largest Single-Day Corporate Volunteer Effort

PITTSBURGH, April 25, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- On Saturday, April 25, more than 2,000 local Comcast NBCUniversal employees and their families, friends and community partners will "make change happen" as they volunteer to improve communities across the Greater Pittsburgh region as part of the 14(th )annual Comcast Cares Day. Projects will include the organization of a food pantry, revitalization of public parks, beautification of community centers and schools and various landscaping and cleanup efforts at more than a dozen sites.

Comcast Cares Day, which takes place each April during National Volunteer Month, is Comcast NBCUniversal's companywide celebration of its year-round commitment to service and the nation's largest single-day corporate volunteer effort.

In Pittsburgh, Comcast Corporation Executive Vice President David L. Cohen and Comcast Regional Senior Vice President Jim Samaha will join Congressman Mike Doyle, Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, Sarah Heinz House Executive Director Jennifer Cairns, United Way of Allegheny County Director of Community Impact Julie DeSeyn and nearly 300 volunteers to complete a number of initiatives at the Sarah Heinz House Boys and Girls Club.

"Comcast Cares Day is a shining example of how our employees, family members, friends and community partners all come together with a similar goal of creating a positive impact in our communities," said Cohen. "I look forward to making a difference in the lives of club members by joining hundreds of other volunteers at Sarah Heinz House Boys & Girls Club."

Activities taking place at the club throughout the day will include preparing vegetable gardens, planting flowers, mulching and landscaping.

"I'm pleased to see so many Comcast employees volunteering to help today," Congressman Doyle said. "Comcast makes contributions to a number of communities in Pennsylvania and around the country through direct and in-kind support. I commend Comcast's philanthropic commitment, and I welcome the effort that Comcast and its employees make every year to improve Pittsburgh on Comcast Cares Day."

Said Allegheny County Executive Fitzgerald: "Allegheny County is thankful for the service of the almost 2,000 Comcast volunteers who are working throughout our community today. Volunteerism is essential to a growing and prosperous region. We are fortunate to have Comcast as part of that community, and grateful that the organization remains an active, committed and engaged member of this region."

In addition, the Comcast Foundation will present Cairns with a $25,000 grant for the Sarah Heinz House Boys and Girls Club on behalf of all those who volunteered on Comcast Cares Day. The Foundation, which last year presented a $20,000 grant to Sarah Heinz House Boys and Girls Club to support My.Future, a new technology initiative that teaches Club members about the digital world and ignites their passion for technology, has awarded more than $16 million in grants to local non-profit organizations nationwide who have participated in Comcast Cares Day.

"Comcast is a valued member of the Sarah Heinz House family," said Cairns. "Their care for our kids extends far beyond one day a year. Not only has Comcast been an integral part of keeping our facility and grounds beautiful, they have also helped us to expand our kids' horizons by exposing them to the latest technology. We are forever grateful for their support."

As part of Comcast NBCUniversal's recently announced five-year partnership agreement with Boys & Girls Club, United Way Worldwide announced today it will be providing additional support to Boys & Girls Clubs on Comcast Cares Day. Six clubs, including the Sarah Heinz House Boys and Girls Club, will receive a $25,000 grant from United Way Worldwide to support the Club's focus on healthy lifestyles. United Way Worldwide will continue to support Boys & Girls Clubs on Comcast Cares Day through 2019, impacting a total of 30 Clubs, supporting their goal of getting 1.9 million more kids active and healthy.

This year, more than 90,000 Comcast and NBCUniversal volunteers are expected to participate in more than 750 projects across the country and around the globe. To date, volunteers have contributed more than 3.7 million service hours to improve nearly 6,000 projects in the U.S. and around the world since Comcast Cares Day started in 2001.
