Groundbreaking Suicide Documentary Poised To Save Lives

Groundbreaking Suicide Documentary Poised To Save Lives

Suicide survivor Jeannette Rizzi single-handedly opens hearts and wallets to raise awareness.

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Florida native, comedienne, and suicide survivor and activist Jeannette Rizzi has spent the last three years surveying the country documenting lives lost to suicide and those lives affected, including her own. "At the age of sixteen, my best friend committed suicide," explained Rizzi. "It's taken me just as long to accept it, understand it and to not follow suit."

One suicide is committed every thirteen minutes, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, not including those who have tried and failed. "That's more than car crashes," said Rizzi. "Yet no one talks about it until someone high profile tragically takes their own life. And then we go dark again."

The documentary is entitled, "Blindsided" - an extension of her already successful one-woman show and podcast during which she chronicles her own life's struggles as well as others'. "I can't think of a single time I haven't walked on that stage or turned on that mic and not helped someone. This documentary is designed to reach more people, help more professionals, and touch more families. Suicide is a cancer that is treatable through awareness."

Already heralded as "groundbreaking" by Los Angeles media, Blindsided: a documentary - which Rizzi has self-funded to date - has launched a crowd-funding campaign to complete its filming and editing.

About Jeannette Rizzi: Born to a nun and a monk in a small town in Florida, Jeannette Rizzi tragically lost her best friend at the age of 16 to suicide. Thus began Jeannette's battle to sink or swim, or - in her case - live or die. "Blindsided" is a product of Jeannette's commitment to live, as well as her pledge to helping others who battle with their own raison d'être. Blindsided consists of a one-woman show, a podcast and, now, a documentary.
