Emmett Till's Cousin Featured on Chicago Counterpoint TV Released by Fatherhood Educational Institute
CHICAGO, Aug. 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Fathers' rights attorney and advocate Jeffery M. Leving will present the family of Emmett Till with the obituary of the teen murdered in 1955 during the August 19 live broadcast of Chicago Counterpoint TV at 7:30 p.m. (CST). Leving also will interview Ollie B. Gordon, Till's cousin, about the recent unrest in Ferguson, Mo., and its relevance to her nonprofit, the Mamie Till Mobley Memorial Foundation.
Leving secured the newspaper obituary after Gordon shared with him that the family did not have one. "I'm honored to be able to provide this for them through my good working relationships at the Chicago Defender,'' said Leving.
Gordon said the shooting of Mike Brown, 18, reinforces the need for the foundation, which she co-founded in 2009 to honor her cousin and advance efforts to shine a light on social injustices. "We have to continue guiding young men and instilling confidence so they can be effective fathers who raise successful children," she said.
Till's mother, Mamie, sparked a national outcry on race relations after she displayed his mutilated body.
Chicago Counterpoint TV is broadcast live on channel 21 of Chicago Access Network television (CAN-TV) and provides positive role models for fathers, as well as essential legal education to unwed dads, men in divorce and Chicago divorce lawyers seeking to expand their professional knowledge.
