Abilities Expo--The Nation's Leading Expo for People with Disabilities--to feature Push Girl's Star Auti Angel, Paralympian Jennifer French along with an Extensive Line Up of New Products, Services and Technology at The BCEC, September 20-22

BOSTON, Sept. 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Thousands of people with disabilities, their families, caregivers, seniors, wounded veterans and healthcare professionals are expected to attend Abilities Expo Boston on September 20-22, 2013 at The Boston Convention & Exhibition Center (Hall C). Admission is free and show hours will be Friday 11 am to 5 pm, Saturday 11 am to 5 pm and Sunday 11 am to 4 pm. Admission is free.

Abilities Expo, Boston, is the newest in a series of Abilities Expos that take place around the country and have been doing so since 1979. Abilities Expo Boston features an impressive line-up of exhibits, celebrities, workshops, events and activities to appeal to people of all ages with the full spectrum of disabilities--including physical, learning, developmental and sensory disabilities.

"It's not just that we provide a forum that showcases essential technology to bridge the gap between ability and disability," said David Korse, president and CEO of Abilities Expo. "The Expo is always new and exciting with a host of all-inclusive, adaptive activities."

ASL interpreters, complimentary loaner scooters, wheelchair repair and a power chair charging station will also be available during show hours.

The Latest Products and Services
Attendees will experience cutting-edge products and services for people with a wide range of disabilities. They will find mobility products, devices for people with developmental disabilities, medical equipment, home accessories, essential services, low-cost daily living aids, products for people with sensory impairments and much more.

Relevant Workshops
A series of compelling workshops which address pressing disability issues will be offered free-of-charge to all attendees. Sessions will focus on travel, advocating for your special needs child in the classroom, emergency preparedness, therapeutic recreation, home accessibility, social media, thriving as a parent of a unique child, finding the correct mobility device and that is just for starters.

Sports, Dancing and More!
Abilities Expo does not merely inform, it engages and it entertains. Attendees of all levels of ability will learn the latest hip hop dance moves and play a host of adaptive sports like rowing, power soccer, tennis, basketball and quad rugby and more. There will also be special instruction on manual wheelchair skills for people of all abilities. So if you have never hopped a curb or popped a wheelie, now is your chance to learn. And the kids will love the face painting!

Meet the Animals
Animals have become an intrinsic part of the community of people with disabilities. Some are essential to the healing process, while others help their human partners become more independent. Expo-goers will enjoy assistance dog demos, therapy horses and learn how service monkeys can help people with special needs.

Celebrity Encounters
The hip-hop diva introducing attendees to the physical and emotional benefits of wheelchair dancing is Auti Angel, star of Push Girls, Sundance Channel's award-winning, boundary-breaking docu-series that traces the lives of four women in Hollywood who happen to be in wheelchairs.

Jennifer French, silver medalist for Sailing at the 2012 Paralympian Games and the 2013 Rolex Yachtswoman of the Year, will conduct a workshop and book signing for her new autobiography, On My Feet Again.

Gina (Terrasi) Gallagher and Patricia (Terrasi) Konjoian, imperfect sisters and authors of Shut Up About Your Perfect Kid, A Survival Guide for Ordinary Parents of Special Children will help parents navigate the anxiety-causing IEP (Individualized Education Program) process.

Film Screening
The Sessions, a groundbreaking film based on the true story of polio survivor Mark O'Brien who breathes with an iron lung most of each day, will be shown on Saturday, September 21. This movie features John Hawkes as Mark O'Brien who, sensing he may be near death, decides he wants to lose his virginity, William H. Macy as his priest and Helen Hunt as the professional sex surrogate.
