'Life Goes Strong' Launches Health Vertical for the Boomer Generation
Men's Fitness Magazine Editor-in-Chief, Roy S. Johnson To Join Site As First Guest Blogger
NEW YORK and CINCINNATI, June 21, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Life Goes Strong (www.lifegoesstrong.com), a vibrant online destination for "boomers" who are living well and going strong, from NBC Digital Networks and Procter & Gamble Productions, has unveiled its new health vertical (www.healthgoesstrong.com). Focusing on key mid-life health concerns such as diet, nutrition, mental health, disease prevention, health insurance and more, this site joins the Life Goes Strong network's other topic areas devoted to family (www.familygoesstrong.com), style (www.stylegoesstrong.com) and technology (www.techgoesstrong.com). The announcement coincides with the launch of "Healthy Week" -- a week long event across the networks of NBC Universal focusing on nutritional literacy and fitness.
To celebrate this addition to the Life Goes Strong family, Men's Fitness (www.mensfitness.com) Editor-in-Chief, Roy S. Johnson will become the site's first guest blogger. A baby boomer himself, at 54 years-old, Johnson juggles a busy career and home life with bringing up two school-age children and working hard to make healthy lifestyle a priority. Beginning later this week, he will be sharing exclusive health blog postings on a wide range of subjects such as staying fit later in life and breaking bad eating habits. He will also host a series of health videos.
"Boomers are looking for the type of fitness regimen that speaks to their specific stage of life," said Johnson. "I am excited to join Life Goes Strong to focus on this important age group - my age group - while also highlighting Men's Fitness' own commitment to addressing health issues for men across all generations."
An award-winning multi-media journalist, television commentator, media consultant, professor and author, Johnson is VP/ Editor-in-Chief of Men's Fitness magazine and MensFitness.com, the nation's premier fitness publication and website for men. Since joining the magazine in 2007, Johnson has led the publication and website to monumental growth, helping to increase its profile by working with notables such as Jeremy Piven, Jaime Foxx, Reggie Bush and more. He was also responsible for overseeing the development of American Media special projects such as the "Get Fit, Stay Fit 2009 Guide" and "America's Hope: Barack Obama How He will Change Our World."
"Roy has first-hand insight on the importance of balancing the demands of a challenging job and raising kids, while maintaining a fit lifestyle," said Devin Johnson, Vice President, NBC Digital Networks. "He's the ideal person to speak to our vibrant audience of boomers who are looking for helpful tips on navigating their own hectic schedules in order to stay healthy."
Regular contributors to the health site will include Barbara Kantrowitz, contributing editor at Newsweek and co-author of "The Menopause Book."
Life Goes Strong is the third lifestyle Web site created in partnership between Procter & Gamble Productions, Inc. and NBC Digital Networks. The two companies first came together in November 2007 for the unveiling of Petside.com, which has grown to be a leading health and wellness site for pet enthusiasts, reaching over 1.5 million animal owners a month. They reunited again this past July to introduce consumers to DinnerTool.com, a recipe generator and meal planner that helps take the chore out of nightly dinners and features over 35,000 recipes.
